I need advice!! ha!

My brother, sister and I have decided to buy $100 worth of Disney Dollars for my mother for Mother's Day. I still have DD from our last trip last Sept. so I am going to be the one to mail them. They live in TX and I am in VA. Since all the stores seem to be out of them, my brother can not get them for us which he does live only an hour from her and we would not have to put them in the mail.

So I need to mail them and I am kind of nervous about putting $100 in the mail. Is there anyway I could be more confident about not loosing them in the mail? Should I certify them?

My parents are going to Disney with us this October and we are going to do the same for Father's Day. That way they will have $200 just to enjoy...Plus I want to see my dad use DD to buy a beer... :rotfl2: But, by June I would think that the stores will have them in.

TIA

Hi Carrie!

I was told that the stores will have new dollars next week. I've been wanting to get them for the kids.

Honestly, I'd be nervous mailing out that much cash.

Maybe fedex them?? Or mail them and insure them through the post office? Or would they even be insurable? The insurance is in case of lost items too isn't it??

Thanks everyone. I don't think the post office would insure them. I know people have been ordering DD and having them mailed to them. My first thought when I read those post was what if they got lost in the mail.

Does UPS insure something like this?

I could wait for the stores to get them in but with my luck it would be on Mother's Day weekend or later!! There seems to be no for sure answer to when they will have them in.

Thanks for your replies.

You can always send it Certified mail. It costs an additional $4.50 (plus your 37 cents postage), $4.87 total. But then it would need signed for at delivery. You can also add insurance to it for an additional $2.20 for up to $100 value. Or you can send it Priority mail for $3.95, then get Signature Confirmation for an additional $1.80. Then it needs signed for too. I would not do just Delivery Confirmation, because they can just leave it in the mailbox. It doesn't need a signature. And I would not put signature confirmation with insured for $100, because either one requires a signature for delivery, and if you add both it is just wasting money. If you are going to insure it, for $100, skip the Signature Confirmation. You can use signature confirmation with express mail, priority mail or first class PARCELS only. You can not use it on a first class letter. There is also Registered mail, would be $8.00 plus your postage, can be used with a first class letter, so total would be $8.37. This must be signed for at delivery.
I don't know if you want to spend extra to mail them, but it is an option. :confused3
Stop in at your post office and ask. They can help you more than I can. You might be able to send it insured. Which is $2.20 plus .37 stamp ($2.57 total.) Insured over $50 needs signed for also.
You can get more information at USPS.com . Here is a link to their Extra Service Features http://usps.com/send/waystosendmail/extraservices/optionalserviceandfeaturefees.htm

Hope this helps.

There is also Express Mail, guaranteed delivery next day by noon or 3pm. Depends on Post office for the noon or 3 time. It is around $14 for Express. And it needs a signature, unless you waive signature, which I wouldn't do. Because they can leave it in the box. And it is automatically insured for $100.

Thanks Mel63, That helps alot. I guess were I am unsure about the Post office is that once I tried to put insurance on pictures that I was mailing and she said that I could not. So I was not sure if they would insure Disney Dollars. When you get pictures done, well they are expensive!! But now that I am thinking about, people on ebay must insure these things when they mail through the post office. I read over the link and I did not see anything saying you could not. I will stop at the PO and ask..... I am not very post office savy as you can tell!

Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can be purchased through Central Reservations. I'm not sure how quickly they could mail them to you. If it is quick enough, maybe you can order them through there and have them mail them directly to your mother or brother? I didn't realize they had them available until speaking with a manager of our local Disney store. Just a thought.
