I am not sure about it being "fishy", but it does have flavour.
Depends how "picky" you are - if you can order something, decide "hhhmmm, that isn't my favourite fish" but finish it anyway, then you could order it and see. If you would take one mouthful go "yuk, I am not touching any more!", then I wouldn't bother - wait until someone you are with orders some and try a little bit (otherwise you waste money and/or go hungry....).
It sort of depends on what "white fish" you BF likes and why - Mahi Mahi is not like cod or Haddock: it is denser, a bit meater and taster. It is really nice. It is served as a fillet (no bones). Obviously exactly what it tastes like depends on how it is served. I think it is worth trying, but - as above - depends how picky he is... If BF is less picky, he could order it and you could try a bite?
