Magic's 10th Anniversary Cruise (07/27/08-08/03/08): Done w/pics (more pics later)

I am really looking forward to your TR! So sorry to hear about all your TA trouble. I am a new TA specializing exclusively in Disney Destination vacations. Stories like yours inspire me to be the best TA I can for my guests. I want them to be happy! I hope you have a great trip!!

So, I called DCL today to see if I could get my parents on a waiting list for a handicapped room.

The reservations agent and the reservations must have been new, cause they had never heard of me or my Travel Agent. :rotfl2:

They ended up calling the TA for me and getting "permission" to put them on the waiting list. :lmao:

At least it's done, now we keep our fingers crossed.

PROLOGUE VIII: "The final countdown"

Well everything is falling into place and we're all packed and ready to go.

:rotfl2:

Well at least we've got all our FE gifts done and packed and now we just have to pack our clothes. :rotfl:

A few speedbumps the last week or so, but I think we'll make it.

DS had some sort of virus on Monday, but he's 1000% better now. EDIT: And not contagious!!

DCL let our TA know that my parents won't be getting a handicapped room. We did , however, talk Dad into borrowing an electric scooter for the trip. He doesn't have a problem with mobility, just with endurance. Also, he picks up his portable oxygen concentrator today.

One of our travel companions injured his foot and isn't able to cruise. Luckily his wife could find a replacement for him at the last minute. :lmao:

Hopefully, all the speedbumps now mean that we will have smooth sailing [pun intended] come Sunday.

I'm gonna be super busy tomorrow night (packing), so I probably won't post (on this thread). But I just checked the motel that we're staying in and they have free internet access, so I will post again on Saturday.

I'll try to post everyday on the cruise (I mean, what else is there to do:rotfl: ). Probably no pictures, but at least some sort of update.

Talk to you on Saturday from San Pedro.

Hi Tom.....remember me :goodvibes I am looking forward to your Trip report also :thumbsup2 So I am sitting here using the GCH concierge computer eating chocolate covered strawberries and coffee. Are you at your hotel yet near the port?

Look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow. Seems like yeterday we all just started chatting about this cruise and here it is and it seems so surreal...

Our week at DL has zoomed by and the weather was great the whole time. As much as we love DL we love the cruise way more. We are all checked in even though we are not using the buses to get from here to the port they checked us in anyway and all we have to do is wait for our #2 prioriy boarding to be called.

I did not get a chance to put together my FE gifts yet sbecause we closed the park last night. Not sure what we are up to today. Will finish packing back up so i can unpack again tomorrow but that's okay becaue with a Martini in tow unpacking will be easier.

So Tom (sm :rolleyes1 ) I look forward to meeting you, Kristi and West...have a great start to your trip:thumbsup2

Hi Tom,

I followed along on the Nightmare of a TA thread.

However - BON VOYAGE!!!!!!!!!

Have a great week! I read about your nightmare with your travel agent. I cannot wait to read your trip report! I am sure this will be a "MAgical" week.:woohoo:

Saturday, July 26th: Travel Day

We were up at 6:00am (too excited to sleep). I made one last trip to Dollar Tree (zip ties, batteries, etc) then stopped for gas.

Everyone got to the house by 9:15am and we were on our way before 10. We had 3 vehicles for the 13 of us. Nancy & Donna were coming down later. We took 1 potty break stop & 1 lunch stop. Traffic on the 405 was awful, so we didn’t get to the hotel until 3pm.

The rooms at the Vagabond were fine. They were clean at least. The beds were pretty hard though.

For dinner, we drove over to Long Beach and had dinner at The Yard House. Pretty good food and a great beer selection. They advertise over 100 beers, but there were way more than that. All on tap. Price for the 13 of us, including tip, was $550.

Sunday, July 27th: Embarkation Day
156084STICKSBELL2-med.JPG

The continental breakfast at the hotel consisted of donuts, coffee and juice. That was ok, cause we were gonna pig out the rest of the day.

We couldn’t really see the Magic from the hotel, except from the 4th floor elevator lobby. And then it was just the smokestacks through the metal bars. :lmao:

The hotel has a shuttle, but with 15 people and all of the luggage (and FE gifts), we decided to drive over to the terminal and drop most of us off, then the drivers would take the cars back to the hotel and take the shuttle.

We started loading up the cars and coordinating who was riding where and my cell phone rang. It was ScottH calling. He was watching us from the balcony next door at the Holiday Inn. :rotfl:

We headed for the terminal just after 9am and had no trouble dropping of the luggage. We should have thought ahead with the IDs, because they were already allowing people to check in, but not all of us could because the drivers still had their IDs on them. Oops.

The drivers got back to the terminal by 10:10am and we checked in and headed to the other side of the terminal to wait. Half of us ended up with boarding pass 4 and the other half with 5. So, we waiting until they called #5, so that we could all board together.

156084DSC09913.JPG

The ship was still virtually empty, so we snagged some tables near the Mickey Pool and grabbed some food at Topsiders and Goofy’s Galley and Pluto’s Dog House and Pinocchio’s Pizzeria. There were 15 of us, we wanted variety.
156084DSC09922.JPG

The rooms were ready at 1:45pm, so we headed down and the boys put on their swimsuits and headed back up to the Mickey Pool until it was time to get ready for the muster drill.
156084DSC09925.JPG

DS was a little nervous about the drill, but he handled it ok. How do you explain it to a 4-year-old. “We have practice in case the ship sinks.”???
156084DSC09927.JPG

We dropped off the life vests and got our premium spots up front for the Adventures Away party. Then we were off.
156084DSC09962.JPG

We had the earliest possible dinner, so there wasn’t much time after the party to get dressed. Kinda sucked. We dined at 5:30pm and our rotation is LAAPLAP.

Our servers are Malwyn and Non. The service was a little slow. I excused it being the first night, but hopefully it picks up a little tomorrow. DS was getting a little restless by the time dinner was done.

My goal this trip was to try new things in the dining room, so I had the lamb. It was awesome. You could hardly tell it was lamb, tasted very mild, like beef. DW had the tenderloin.

156084DSC09995.JPG

Around 7:30pm we dropped the boys off at the Oceaneer Club and told them we would check back before the show to see if they wanted to join us for the show. They didn’t.

The All Aboard show featured the comedy of Don Friesen and the physical comedy of Alfred and Seyour. Both acts were great.

After the show, Scott, Josh & I headed to Diversions until it was time to pick up the boys from the OC.

I picked up DS around 10pm and took him back to the room. DW had already ordered cookies & milk. What a good mommy.

Then I went back to Diversions. Big mistake! We were joined by a gentleman from Texas who says he was in the Roy Suite. We bought a couple of beers ourselves, but the this guy started buying shots of expensive tequila. Don Julio 1942, I think.

Jump to the end of the night…..not sure what time I made it back to the room, but I ended up sleeping on the bathroom floor after losing my lamb.

More tomorrow.

Still haven't heard if they're doing anything special for the Anniversary on Wednesday. I will post if I hear anything.

Thanks so much for taking time out of your cruise to share with us :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear Diversions was not a fun time otherwise the trip sounds great.

Looking forward to more....
