so I am hearing of these so called magic bands and park entry. So if we have a 7 day ticket purchased before arriving and a split stay at two different resorts. How will they handle this with the magic bands for entry to parks

At this time there is no way to know, especially how it will play out with DVC bookings.

It is just wait and see.

If you have existing tickets on a card they should be able to easily move the remaining days onto another card or RFID tag (i.e. the bracelet).

Thing that has me worried about these bands, beyond the normal privacy issues, is what about my Premier Pass. I know DL is going to go Next gen, I wish they wouldn't as so far I think it sucks big time, but that's my question. What are they going to do with us Premier Pass holder?

They were testing the system for park entry at Magic Kingdom a few weeks ago when we were there. The test was only for resort guests with a MYW package. I was coming out of the park when I saw the sign and asked what they were doing. After explaining that they were testing the new RFID entry, she wanted me to try going back in with my room key to see for myself how it worked. I explained to her I was DVC with an annual pass, so there was no ticket to test on my room key. We talked for a few minutes, and while she didn't give me any details (of course), she led me to believe there will be testing for annual passes in the not-too-distant future. She said something along the lines that if I'm back again in a few months, I might have better luck.

We were told by a cast member doing the testing at Epcot in December that the RFID would be added to the AP sometime in 2013. When that happened, we would have to trade in our old paper AP for the new ones with RFID.

ok thanks but if i am staying at two different resorts would they divide up my 7 day ticket on two different bands?

Well that is just fine for WDW passes. What about Premier since DL will not be using this for a couple of more years?

We usually relax, and stay at our DVC until mid afternoon, and then head out to the parks until late in the evening. By that time, we are assuming from what we know so far about this new system is that we are totally out of luck getting a fastpass. We are already used to this with ADR's.

Actually, in theory, it should be the opposite. You would be able to set a FP time up ahead of time for later in the afternoon--maybe up to two months in advance--that would ensure you'd get one for some of the bigger rides.

For us, I can see this being a big help for TSM as I hate having to get there and rush to the machine and then find out that we are already 3 hours later in return time. We don't have that much to do to keep us occupied at DHS any longer to get there at rope drop and then stay for 3 full hours to wait just for that one ride.

And what about people that get a rash when any type of plastic is touching their skin? They will still have to wear a band?

You don't have to wear the band around your wrist. Just loop it around your lanyard or belt. Or just stick it in your pocket.

Reserving a Fastpass 2 months ahead of time is the problem I have with all this. We don't roll that way, at all. We'd only reserve a Fastpass months in advance if it were a new attraction. If they built new attractions at DHS, you'd have plenty to do while you wait for your Fastpass.

I am copying and pasting a post I wrote on another site.
There might be a silver lining in all the data mining Next Gen generates.
The suits, and maligned "MBA's" might discover that a certain couple from CA with a DVC membership is "finally" back to WDW after 4 years. They tend to be high rollers when they dine out, but they only did it once. Their handcuffs were activated halfway through their stay at VWL, meaning they either stayed in their villa, or went someplace else in the first 4 days of their vacation. They were here for 7 days, but only bought a churro, and a cup of coffee in MK, a Mickey bar at DHS, a postcard at DAK, and a bag of chocolates at Ghiradelli in DTD. They bought a box of Cascade at the Mercantile at WL,so we know they are running the dishwasher, so why are they cooking in, and not getting the DDP?
They didn't buy any of the One Disney stuff. They also didn't prebook any fastpasses, and never used Fastpass at all, most likely as that all the Fastpasses were gone by the time they logged on with their Smartphones.
They got some charcoal at Fort Wilderness, so they might have used the grills at VWL, but we can't tell, as we don't sell meat in our gift shop/ grocery stores. Did they get steaks some where else?
Thank goodness they spent over $300.00 at Vic & Al's.
I highly doubt this type of guest behavior will ever get noticed.

Probably not. It probably would be on the first and the second would be for that resort and charging for that leg of your trip. You should be able to go to Guest Services and they can move the remaining days from the first to the second. Personally, i would see if you can get the tickets on a card. Then you can keep it in your wallet. If your tickets are not part of your package and you will be buying them separately you may consider getting them from a reseller like Undercover tourist. They are cheaper then the gate price at Disney. I am not a fan of the bracelet idea and the ones that have been posted in the past are just basic color nothing you would want to collect.

I'm expecting charms, stickers, changeable bands and so on.
Like they are now, they seem more like handcuffs. I know that once in the World we are much like prisoners of the mouse, so that may fit.

Thomas Smith posted this to the DisneyParks Blog (reply to comment #70 on page 2):
It’s true. There will be future opportunities to further customize your MagicBands. Stay tuned, as we have this information we will continue to share with you.

Yea, i read on another forum that they plan the brackets to be a collectible item. So we will have to see what they come up with. I expect them all to be the same color with "Disney Parks" written on them... Boring...
