I didn't know exactly where to post this so please move this if needed. My question is how many magicband can you have linked to your account at once? We are going in September and I want to use a Halloween magicband for our day at MK before the MNSSHP and a regular magicband for the rest of the stay and I don't want anything to be messed up. Thanks in advance.

Awesome! I just wanted to make sure. The last time I visited was 2007 so A LOT has changed so I'm trying to learn as much as possible about the new systems. Thanks!

So you don't have to "select" one to somehow let it know that you're using a specific one for that day? Just whatever are linked in your account, all work without having the select one for while you're visiting the parks?

Yes, all active bands in your account are interchangeable (which they are all active unless you have gone in and deactivated one). Nothing is actually "on" the band, it is just a link to your MDE account.

Brilliant thanks. So this will store your resort room key, tickets, dining reservations and fastpasses?

Sorry, can't you tell I'm quite new to this.

As mentioned: NOTHING is ever stored on the Magic Bands. They are merely keys that access your MDE account. EVERYTHING is stored in your MDE account; tickets, FP+, room number, charging privileges, etc.

Since the bands are just keys to the information in your account, they are completely interchangeable.

That said, there are times when you could have issues with older bands not opening your room door. But that's the hotel's doing, not the MB or the system. Some resorts will only allow one band to open the door to your room. They'll work for everything else, just not the room. Front desk can change it though.

Just remember, your magic bands have two transmitters in them.

One is basically a proxy card type of chip. Very similar to what many of us have at work that unlocks doors, this is the chip that is used when you hold the band up to one of the readers. While not really getting in the technology, the point here is that the proxy card reader portion of your magic band should always work. There is no battery for that, it just works.

The other transmitter is similar to the EZPass readers that are on your car. They reach about 30 feet, and have a built in battery. That battery only lasts about 2 years.

It is the second transmitter that gives you a lot of the extras. By extras, I mean things like ride photos, and Storymaker. That is what Disney calls the personalization's that you may see at It’s a small world, Rock ‘n roller coaster, Haunted Mansion and Expedition Everest, where your name comes up in the story, mostly on some sort of poster. I haven’t noticed it at HM in a while, and they may do those types of things in other places. Just a fun way to personalize your trip, but again, you will need a band that is less than 2 years old to make those things work…

Lastly, we did deactivate some of my wife’s oldest bands on our last trip. The hotel said they were interfering with the door. Not sure if that was really the case, but was not a big deal…

Some resorts will only allow one band to open the door to your room.

That explains our recent visit at CR. Only my new band opened the door (I checked) and I thought there was something wrong so I only wore that one for the whole trip instead of my other ones. It kind of explains some of the comments the CM made when we checked in about it taking a long time to link my new band due to the other ones. CR must have a different system because all of my other ones worked at WL in Feb and BC in Dec. Good to know not to leave the room the first time without testing and making sure someone has a working one!

This particular comment has been around since the very first days of Magic Bands, when it *might* have been a real thing, but is basically urban myth. From the beginning, MBs were blamed for any an all problems that occurred, regardless of reality. The resort CMs have accepted this myth as gospel - that, and it allows them to deflect guest frustration/anger away from them (and the resort), and towards another "system" that no one has any control over. The resort CMs all know how to attach a different band to your room, and when they do that, they appear to be going above and beyond.

It is entirely possible to have problems with your magicband. I can attest to that! I have had problems multiple times.

Goin to the front desk- multiple times - has not fix the problems when I've had them. As long as I am to use my band for park entry and FP, I can manage.

While there may be some who use the 'too many Magic Bands' excuse for things not working, Disney themselves tell you to not have too many Magic Bands. From your reservation e-mail...

MagicBand Reminder:
To take full advantage of all your Resort MagicBand has to offer, deactivate all prior MagicBands you do not plan on using by visiting MyDisneyExperience.com. If you need assistance with deactivating your MagicBands, please contact Member Services at 800-800-9800.

Someone did a post a while back explaining how the door locks could only accept so much data. So if you have four or five people in your party, and all have 20+ Magic Bands, the door may not work for all of those MB. If you have a favorite MB that is not working, the Front Desk can assist in making it work again. I always check my MB on the door before leaving in the morning. I also carry an extra MB in my backpack that I know will open the door, just in case I forget to do the verification in the morning.

Okay, so my last trip to WDW was in 2002, so I am completely lost on the whole MagicBand thing. We are going for a couple of days this September to meet up with my DD, SIL and granddaughter. We have a 2-night reservation at Port Orleans French Quarter.
Will Disney send us the MagicBand automatically now that we have a reservation? Or do we need to go somewhere when we arrive to pick them up? Front desk, maybe?

If you live in the US, your MBs will be sent to you.

If you have linked your onsite reservation number to your MY DISNEY EXPERIENCE account, you’ll be able to choose a MB color and customize it with a name imprinted on the underside of the band.
