MagicBand+ coming to DCL as DisneyBand+

You can continue to use your Key to the World card for free!
Which is what we will do. I know some people are going to love these bands (and can use them at the parks so yay) but for us....nope. Not going to pay for something that we can do for 'free' with our KTTW card. Plus our August cruise is our first Platinum....I want to show off my darn lanyard :rotfl2:

The press releases say that the new bands will be available on select sailings of the Wish over the summer and only later expanded to the rest of the fleet. So, you might not have a choice, anyway!

Haha good point 😂

This thread is really interesting! It’s seems very polarizing!! I’m a collector of limited edition MBs, and I like the old version - I never cared for the MB+. But there was a new band that was released this week I wanted. It’s the only one I’d buy. Now I have one, I’ll definite it take it on the ship…but I’d fall into one of these camps…

1. Didn’t care for/need the MB+ because “they’re too big, they have to be charged, don’t offer things I want over MB”…I simply didn’t buy one.
2. If you’re in the camp of, I love my lanyard - wear that thing!
3. If you hate the lanyard - don't wear that thing! I didn’t want to wear one on the cruise because I travel light, I was very happy putting my kttw in my pocket, no lanyard required.
4. If you think it’s a racket, I would vote with your dollars

I think the good news is, there’s an option for everyone. Literally

So the wearable bands on Princess and MSC, are those also an added cost like DCL will be or are they included in your cruise fare?

Our wearable bands are included since we sail MSC Yacht Club but comparing pricing out of PC is interesting --

4 nights on WISH 6/3/2024 --
Inside $3,975
Concierge Verandah $7,680

4 nights on Seashore 6/2/2024
DeLuxe Grand Suite Yacht Club = $3,200

MSC is still trying to build a name for itself in the US. I am not surprised by the price difference

No kidding!! That will be us in about a month. I am wearing that thing everywhere and everyday! 😂

I saw on twitter something about how the use of the term Magicband has some limitations? So the DCL ones are called Disneyband
Apparently, another entity already has a trademark for magicband in Europe. Disney went with DisneyBand since DCL sails out of Europe and they are also looking at using them at Disneyland Paris.

I reached out to DCL, as I am sailing on the Wish this summer, and also doing a pre cruise short trip to DW. I was looking around, trying to find some recent MB 2, as most of the features of the MB + , really didn't apply to me, and having to charge daily was a negative for me. But if it would be useful on the cruise, esp for the kids with me, maybe. I just wanted to be sure if I ordered from DCL for the discount, I'd receive in time for my trip, as I leave home a week ahead of cruise. Or even if my cruise was during their launch. I got this response:

"At this time, we have no further information than what was previously published regarding the DisneyBand+ for those exact dates at this time. However, please see the below information. You will see it listed as an option IF it's available for your sailing. Please note, it states between 11 and 45 days prior. Not longer or less.

From what we are seeing, it is the same as the MagicBand+ with the information provided listed as:

Yes, however band features will vary by site. Disney Cruise Line refers to the band as DisneyBand+ while Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort refer to the band as MagicBand+.

How to Purchase a DisneyBand+
While DisneyBand+ is not yet available for purchase, Guests on select Disney Wish sailings in Summer 2023 will be able to order a DisneyBand+ by visiting My Reservations between 11 and 45 days of their sail date, if their reservation is paid in full (while supplies last). Shipping is available to US addresses only (excluding PO Boxes, APO, FPO, DPO, or any cruise ports). There will also be a limited selection of bands available for purchase on board (while supplies last).

This is the most up to date information we have so far. Please keep an eye out on the Disney Cruise Line website and your reservation for more upcoming details."

When we were on the Wonder last summer there were contractors doing wiring work on the pool deck and we asked what it was about, They said it was for Magic Bands and I was surprised, but I guess they were right.

You don't think DCL will have special experiences that will only be accessible with a Disneyband? This is my issue with people saying it's optional. Sure it's not mandatory but you'll miss out on all the cool things you can do with it which in turn will pressure passengers to buy it.

I could see them adding a photo to the aqua mouse and r the aqua duck and the Aqua Dunk that can only be gotten with a Disneyband+ and or a Magiciband+ much like they have done in the parks with some of the ride photos.

I have no doubt they will, it's Disney. And just like the optional MBs at WDW, these are optional. I don't need any of the additional features the MB has and I doubt I'll want whatever features they come up with for this version. The cards will always be available and are all I need.

Exataly which everyone probobly already knows so why do you have to make a big deal about not wanting to use them. I don't relly see what the point of your post is because DCL hasn't said anything about key cards going away anytime soon. The fact that you still need to show something with the name of the ship, the dates of te cruise and your name on it at a port is the main reason why.

Oooh I didn't realize they'd be testing this early. I'm on the April 28 sailing, wonder if it'll be available then?!
