Hi all.

Different resorts have different charging limits for your Magicbands, correct? On top of that, when you reach said limit, do you have to pay it off or is it automatically charged to your card that's on file before you can resume charging?

Thanks!

It's automatically charged to the card on file.

Values have the lowest amount @ $500. Larger amounts are provided at Moderates and Deluxes.

I believe it's the resort that has charging limits not the magic band itself. After a certain amount is charged to the room, they charge the credit card. I ran into an issue with that a couple of years ago because Disney somehow had an expired credit card on file, even though they'd asked for the darned thing when I checked in. Go figure. :)

We hit the limit once. The CMs handled it pretty discretely. One took us to a different register, called the resort and took care of everything. We were still new to WDW then and did not know of the limits so we didn't understand the issue. We had plenty of room on our credit card they were using.

I guess we ate too much.

Can anyone answer if all vendors within the parks can be paid via MagicBand. Such as ice cream or popcorn stands ?

Also. What about shops at downtown Disney ? Sorry to hijack thread. Just figured it would be a good place to ask

1. Most can. There are a few "mobile" vendors that might not be able to.

2. Most can.
I can't say "all," as I can't keep up with who/what is there.

Your balance is charged to your CC when you reach your limit. You can get a new cycle of charging as soon as the old one reaches your resort's charging max, but you have to speak with your resort to start the new cycle. As Hootch (above) posted, Disney will be discreet in handling a maxed-out charging privilege if you're trying to make additional charges while on Disney property. As another poster mentioned, charging isn't on your MagicBand. The MagicBand is just a way for Disney to connect you, personally, with your MDE account while you're at WDW, when you need to access something from your MDE acct, such as dining credits, room charging, tickets.

Lately there's been a few mentions that CC charges have been processed before a person's max was reached. If your overall plan was to charge to a CC, but pay off charges with gift cards, be sure to stop by the front desk every few days and pay down your current balance with your gift cards, instead of waiting to the end of your trip. As it is, Disney will charge your CC in the wee hours of your last night's stay. So plan your balance settlement with that in mind.

This was not our experience this spring, although it may have been different because our linked card was a Visa card attached to our bank account. Overnight on our 4th going into 5th night of our stay, our card was charged, the Magic Band account was at zero, and it started over again. I didn't have any problems with this because I knew it was going to happen; I asked about the procedure at check in. I also went to the desk the next day and received a print out of the charges so far, the payment, and the current balances.

As far as the poster asking if the Magic Bands can be used everywhere, even at DTD, the answer is mostly yes. There are very few exceptions. There was a pet-supply vendor at DTD in a portable kiosk that I don't think took them, but all of the "stores" and restaurants absolutely do. (Not sure about the AMC movie theatre because I can't even imagine spending the money to go to Disney World and ending up at the movies.). Anyway, I didn't see anything anywhere in any of the parks, including the water parks, resorts (pool bars, gift shops etc.) that didn't take them.

Maybe the CMs are supposed to handle it discreetly, but that didn't happen for me last August. I reached my limit mid-trip. When I tried to charge something after that, the CM just said, "Sorry, it won't go through". I had an actual credit card on me, so I used that. When I got back to the resort I went to see what the problem was. They informed me that I was at the limit and then asked me if I wanted them to charge the card. The CM didn't offer any solutions, like calling the resort.

This happened to me in March on the last day of my trip but no one at the MK had any idea what the problem was (I went to Guest Relations and they called the resort. The resort didn't know the problem and it was never resolved.) and I spent the last 5 hours of my trip with no way to charge anything because I only had my magicband. I now will bring one credit card with me just in case and cash because I'm finally going to get one of those darn Mickey ears Balloons I've always wanted).

I think there are a couple of food places that are on the boardwalk that don't take magic band as payment. Not the restaurants attached to the main building, but the self-standing buildings that are ON the boardwalk.
