Cast DD age 9 thrill ride lover
DS age 12 thrill ride avoider
DS age 15 won't admit how much he really loves WDW
DH age 42 along for the ride
Me-DW age 41 Lover of all things Disney!
Today is our day for AK. Everyone gets up early, and a bus pulls up just as we get to the bus stop. We get there at opening, and walk right on to It's tough to be a Bug. I love this one-but it can be kind of dark and loud for really small kids, so take note. Went over to do Dinosaur, and realized that it was opening day for the media for Dinoland. There were lots of camera crews there, and they even had a small fireworks display, which kind of surprised me. Oh well, we'll get back to Dinoland later. Convinced DS age 12 to ride-this ride is so cool!. No wait either!! Decided to check out Dinoland , and I must admit, the aesthetics of the attractions just don't seem to fit in with the rest of the park. Maybe it will just take some getting used to. Anyway, decided to ride Primeval Whirl (very short wait). The local Fox news station was filming me, DD and DS15 as we were getting in the vehicle-not sure if we made it on the air! As much as I don't like the garish colors of this ride, it was so much fun that I was actually laughing the whole time! it reminded me of the cat and mouse coasters at the Jersey shore . Didn't do Triceratops Spin, but my 2 younger kids wanted to play the arcade games -these were expensive-2.00 a play. Again, not sure if I liked the whole carnival aspect of Dinoland. DD won a very uncute dinosaur, which we had to lug the rest of the day. Went to Kali River Rapids, another walk-on ride. I had never been, and was wondering why everyone else was putting their shoes in the container in the middle-oh well, when in Rome.... Boy was I ever glad I put my shoes in there!! I got absolutely drenched! I'm not talking Splash Mountain wet-I'm talking someone threw you in a swimming pool drenched! Glad it was a nice sunny day! Did the Maharishi Trek, and saw lots of animals. The kids loved the sleeping tigers-they reminded them of our own cat, el Duque aka Devil Boy. Got a Fast Pass for the safari, and then went over to Tusker House-I had made PS for the new School Room Restaurant. This was great!!! The food was all served family style-starting with bowls of tossed salad, cornbread, and an African frybread. This was followed by Sudanese bean cakes, collard greens, a corn pepper medley, black eyed peas and ham, then fried chicken, an African chicken stew w/apricots (yum!) roast pork w/gravy, and finally plates of pecan pie, pineapple upside down cake, and brownies. We were stuffed! There is excellent interaction between the servers and the guests, a great story teller-HarleydelaPlaya, and an African musician who gets everyone involved . We asked if this would be come a permanent restaurant, and the servers said they were told only a week or two more and then management would decide. Hope it stays! Got done with lunch just in time for the safari-we saw tons of animals! Did some shopping, and then headed back to swim and rest for a few hours. Walked over to Mk around 5- people were starting to leave, so the lines were thinning out. we were able to do all the rides we wanted with no wait in Tomorrowland- Buzz too many times to remember, then DD and I decided we wanted to do its a small world, so the boys headed over to Columbia Harbour House to get dinner while we rode. This ride always makes me smile-I love the clowns in the hot air balloon holding the "help " sign!! Met up with Dh and the boys, and ate a nice dinner-DH raved about the chicken salad. Did Haunted Mansion, then Thunder mountain a few times. I was tired of getting drenched, so I sat out Splash Mountain (I wanted to watch SpectroMagic anyway!) The CM let therm ride twice in a row without getting off because there were no lines! Had to pick up breakfast at Main Street bakery-this is a must now for us!! and walked back to the CR. Tomorrow- our last day (wah!)
