Everyone should have my "problem." I'm excited but also a little stressed!
I love Disney trips (World and -land) and get almost as much joy from planning as from going. But our 2012 trip won't just be for my family of 5. My in-laws are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in 2012 and taking all 10 of us (my husband, me, our three children, my husband's sister, her husband, and their child) to Walt Disney World for 5 days in late October.
And since I'm the Disney planner, I get to arrange and book the trip for everyone! This is awesome, but also a little stressful because I want everyone to have a great time and so far no one has any preferences, except, "I just want to see the kids have a good time." Obviously, yes, that part's huge. But there's plenty for adults to do and see and eat and love at Disney, too!
My in-laws are from Wyoming so I was thinking maybe the Wilderness Lodge would be a nice place to stay (looks like Yellowstone Lodge). But maybe The Contemporary makes more sense because it's closer and more convenient to get to the MK, where we'll probably spend a lot of time.
My MIL doesn't walk much (bad knees) but won't use an ECV or chair so she'll want to be able to get back to the hotel quickly and easily and will probably mostly meet us for meals rather than following the kids on attractions all day long.
My SIL gets incredibly motion sick and won't ride on most rides. (She doesn't even like to ride in a car when she's not the one driving.) My BIL has kidney disease.
My FIL, my husband, and I have no problems, concerns, or restrictions. Whew.
For the kids, we'll have my 9-year-old daughter who has special needs (cognitive, anxiety/sensory, gets tired walking long distances), two five-year-olds, and a one-year-old. (So we'll also need to get back to the hotel for afternoon naps, swims, etc.)
We want to stay on-property, with the dining plan, and enjoy several good character meals. (So bummed that Liberty Tree Tavern doesn't have theirs anymore, that was one of my favorites.)
I want to start booking immediately, since October isn't far away! But . . . I can find almost nothing about Magical Gatherings on the WDW website right now. I suspect they're changing their program.
I'd appreciate any/all advice about traveling with a group and/or 2012 Magical Gathering stuff. Sorry this post is so disjointed; it's a crazy day here.
Thanks in advance!
