I found out today my SIL who is 45 needs a double bypass open heart surgery. She has never smoke...just runs in her family.

We had planned a family trip with my mom (70th B day) , my family, my brother, Sil and their 2 kids, 2 and 4. This would have been their first trips to Disney. I even have a fellow DVC Diser sending postcards to my DN and DNeph, she is at AKV now...I feel awful now as they will arrive at their house and they are not going.

Dr.s say its a 6 week recovery...she is in great health etc...so, now I feel guilty about still going....the trip was also to celebrate my DS14 8th grade grad(he is bringing a friend) ...before she went in for her angiogram this morning I told her not to worry, that 2 months from today we would be poolside at OKW...Her health is more important than any trip.

Anyone else have any experiences with a similiar type situation, and what did you do...?

If your trip is planned for more than 6 weeks from now, is there some reason that your SIL won't be able to go? :confused3

At Christmas 2007 they rented a hospital bed for a SSR Studio room, while the rest of the family was in other quarters.

Tom was frail and tired and spent alot of time "receiving guests" (his grandsons in between their park trips). While Tom was in his wheelchair he watched the boats on the water and waved to the travellers.

Yes- his participation was limited and the family had expected that.

The important part is, Tom died March 17th, 2008. The 2007 trip was a success because they all experienced it with Papa.

I hope there can be a resolution to having a great time together!

BUT the anticipation of the magic maybe some of the best medicine of her recovery. Has the doctor said that she will not be able to travel? Why can't she be poolside at OKW in 2 months?

I'm a glass half full kind of a person...and having had a very serious medical setback...having something to look forward to definitely speeds recovery.

Think positive, bring nothing but positive happy thoughts to her recovery and unless the doctor says she can't travel, then she can look forward to relaxing and recovering with the Mouse.

You didn't really give us much on the time schedule but I am guessing that she will have the surgery some time in the 6 weeks prior to the trip.?
I sure couldn't make this decision for you. But if you wanted to post pone it for a month or 2 then I am sure every one else involved would back you up.
There are certain people I wouldn't go to Disney World without.

If you want to go ahead with the plans then I am sure that your SIL will back you up on that but I wouldn't expect her husband and kids to go.
They will probably want to postpone the trip until she can go with them.

These aren't easy decisions, its sort of like having to pick 4 guys to roll down the streets of Bagdad on a personal security detail for an Iraqi Politician. There just isn't anything easy about it but every one who really loves you will stand behind you.

I don't know? Maybe you should pray on it?

I have no advise to give but sending you my thoughts and prayers

I hope everything works out as you want it to.

First I want to send hugs your way and for your SIL and her family.

MY dh (48) just recently had a quadruple bypass. Will you guys be flying? Driving? I forget the medical terms, so I apologize - does the doctor think he will go in the traditional way (middle of chest) or the invase way (side of ribs/towards the back). They might not know this until she is on the table and are ready for the procedure. At least this was the case with my dh. The recovery time will be different for both two months for the invasive and three months for the traditional way.

The first two months were very, very tough and stressful. Lot's of running around (doctors, caumidin center, blood tests). She might be ready for some relaxation and getting away by then. Her cardioligst is the one she will/should giver her some answers and yet they are not set in stone. My dh ran into some complications that prolonged his stay an extra 4 days at the hospital so each one is different.

Good Luck and please keep us posted.

Good thoughts and pixie dust your way.

im just wishing you , and your sister in law a quick recovery , and im sure it will all come together in the end ... do whats in your heart , good luck:hug:
