Has any body gon on the fireworks cruise . How was it how many people are on the boat or do you get your own boat? Is ther any food or drink on the boat and do you have to book on the 90 day out window. thank you for any help.

Hi, we went on the Magical Fireworks Gathering in Feb. We had a group of 32. There was still room for another family, so I am guessing it holds about 50 people. The food is served before the voyage. We were actually able to book the event a few days before the 90 day mark. Magical Gatherings seem to always be subject to changes. The days and times change depending on what Disney has going on. We really enjoyed this event. We are debating whether or not to do our December trip as a Grand Gathering. We also did the Safari Dinner, it was fun as well.

We did the Magical Gathering fireworks cruise last December and it was great! As mentioned above, the boat holds about 50 people - so depending on the size of your party, you may have other families with you.

We left from the Contemporary dock.. I believe we had to meet outside near the docks about an hour before the cruise departed. They had desserts (several types of cakes and cookies) and refreshments setup outside. Everyone gathers in this area and this is where you meet your boat captain and given your MG fireworks pin. The captains were dressed as pirates and really played the part well. Then we were joined by Captain Hook and Mr. Smee (I think that is his name). Captain Hook took my daughter by the hand and led us to our boat - she was beaming from ear to ear! If I could figure out how to post pictures, I could post them if you like. They also gave us a cookie and hot chocolate to take with us on the boat.

The cruise was a lot of fun.. our pirate/captain was very funny. He asked trivia questions and handed out little prizes (pirate eye patches, swords...). The view of Wishes was incredible and the sound is piped into the boat so you can hear everything. On the way back to the dock, we also got to stop and watch the Electric Water Parade, which was about 50 feet in front of us.

Once back at the docks, we were greeted by Peter Pan and Tinkerbell (she was in a lantern PP was holding).

I thought it was a great experience - the highlight of our trip. I thought it was well worth the money.. .Let me know if you have any more questions!

Oh, I forgot to add - we booked it a few weeks in advance and were lucky enough to get it. The CM said we got the last available spaces on the boat.

My thoughts on the Magical Gatherings Fireworks Voyage:
1) Book early. It is a bit more complicated than just making PS's. Some things you will need are your Grand Gatherings # and the confirm #'s, names, ?-ages of all the people in your party.
2) Arrive early to get the most out of the dessert buffet and characters. We got there right when they told us to arrive and all the desserts were pretty much demolished (except for the fruit) -- so that was a bit disappointing. Thankfully, we were stuffed from our dinner.
3) Each member in your party receives a special MG FW pin -- neat little extra.
4) You don't have to arrive together, but it's preferable if you do. Don't knock yourself out though if someone's late and wants to meet up with you there (There -- being the Contemporary).
5) Our reception was held on a patio adjacent to the pool, out by the Contemporary marina. But the CM's told us it changes frequently due to weather (wind) conditions and such. So, once you arrive at the Contemporary, don't be afraid to ask, and ask again to get clear instructions on where the reception is being held. We had a CM "call" to find out where it was and then he actually walked with us to the location. Very helpful!
6) Two boats typically set sail (Capt Hook's boat and Smee's boat -- they don't actually join you on the boats, just lead you to them) -- a total of 109 people are at the reception and then split up into the boats. Why 109 and not an even number, say 110 -- I don't know. Anyway, that means about 55 people per boat. The boats are basically like pontoons with several rows of benches that seat about 4 adults on each bench with an aisle in the middle.
7) Families are assigned benches on the boats, grouped together... more or less. I don't know if this always applies, but on our voyage, the side of the boat that the steering wheel was on was the side that was closer to the FW. All seats are good, but I had to contend with getting "boat canopy" in my pics from the side I sat on (the side farther from the FW).
8) GO TO THE BATHROOM! You are on the boat for about an hour and there are no bathrooms.
9) Brush up on your Disney pirate/ocean themed trivia. The pirate host on the boat plays trivia w/prizes. Fun! The host on the boat is very funny and I think they enjoy feeding off of funny guests, so don't force the funny, but definitely bring your sense of humor! The host also does a good job of making everyone feel "like family," meaning it's not awkward having more than one family on the boat.
10) It's cooler on the water and at night so dress warmer for that purpose.
11) You also get to see the Electrical Water Pageant from the boat, which is cute.
12) Peter Pan meets you when you get back to the Contemporary.
13) If you are using Disney transportation, know ahead of time how you will get back to your hotel (if not staying at the Contemporary). Most likely you will go back to your resort via the monorail to the MK (if not staying at a monorail resort), which will have closed right after the Fireworks, but since you still are taking the boat back to the Contemporary and spending time with Peter Pan, you won't arrive back to the MK until about 60-90 minutes after the fireworks have ended. Be prepared for crowds at the MK and for getting on one of the last buses back to your resort.
14) If you enjoy fireworks, the Peter Pan characters and boat rides, this will be right up your alley. We loved it... a highlight for us too!

What time roughly are these cruises? Also how do they compare to the Wishes Cruises and the Birthday Specialty Cruises? Just wondering because it's hard to find info about each one anywhere. Has anyone tried more than 1 type of cruise?

Cruise times are based on Fireworks schedules. I don't know the details of all of them, but you may be able to get more info on allears. net.

Without going back to look specifically, I seem to recall the Wishes Fireworks were at 10 pm the night we did the Grand Gatherings. We were told to be at the reception by 8:30, but as early as 8 p.m. The boats set sail about 9:15/9:30???? and then of course, you are on the boat through the end of the FW and the trip back to the Contemporary, which w/10 p.m. FW, would be 10:45 or so. Now, if the FW are earlier then it would be earlier.

I am booked to go on one on 7/3, but I am probably going to cancel. My oldest (DS 17) looked at me like I was crazy when I told him about the characters. My youngest (DS 11) thought it sounded okay, but he didn't care if we did it or not. I also have a DD 13 and DS 15. I have heard that it is "magical", but now I'm wondering whether my family will think so. We have been to Disney many times and they've done parasailing, snorkling in EPCOT's Living Seas and fishing. Anyone with teens who've done this? If so, are they teens who have already been to WDW many times, or first timers? I mean, if we were first timers, I could see where this would be really magical for them.

We just got back and our group did this voyage. We loved it!! It was the best group gathering we did (we also did the safari - very good; & the grand gathering breakfast - ok).

We met at the Contemporary (2nd floor - not signed very well). The desserts were great. No food or drink on the boats. Our head pirate was great. Lots of singing and pirate trivia. We saw the electrical water parade from the boat and then the fireworks! Met Peter Pan on the dock as we returned.

Just one note. . . if you need to return to MK for transportation home, be prepared to walk from the CR. The boats were not running from CR at that time. We hoofed it back to MK and then caught a boat to FW. It was very crowded as everyone was leaving MK at that time.

Have fun!
