we have scheduled the magical express for our May 10 arrival. we did not
book our air with WDW, however. I have read that you get a special luggage tag per person, and I am sure they would send somekind of written confirmation, right? :confused3 how long before your trip do receive all this?

I was told approx. 20 days prior to leaving you will get a packet in the mail.

Magical Express even covers the inbound bellman gratuities!

So with ME, when you get to your room and bell services delivers your luggage, you don't have to tip them? That's going to seem somewhat awkward, but I'll take it!! :confused3

From Disney's Magical Express FAQs - Planners:

Q: Are Bell Service gratuities included for the luggage delivery to the Resort room?

A: Yes, but for the inbound service only. Gratuities are not included if the Guest elects to use Bell Services for luggage assistance when departing.

To me, this also means that you don't have to be in the room when they deliver your lussgage. So after you check in, you can leave your room and start having fun. That's a big advantage over conventional bell services, when you sometimes have to wait in your room for quite a while if they're busy.

That is my understanding too--your luggage "magically" appears in your
room

If its anything like the Disney Cruise Line luggage transfers to the resorts, then it shouldn't be all too long. My guess is a couple of hours or so as long as there is no other intervening issues such as extreme bad weather.

My personal experience with this was last September right after one of the hurricanes. In fact, we were one of the first flights into MCO after it was re-open, so this is a very EXTREME case I ithink. Disney Cruise Line people were there at MCO (really had to commend them for that). They took our baggage claim numbers to be sure they got our bags. We got to the resort about 1:00pm. We did our thing all day. Our bags got to our room just after we did around 8:00pm. Timing could not have been better.
