I was wondering if anybody using DME has ever been in such a long line that they decided to grab a cab to WDW? And If you don't take DME will your luggage still get to the hotel? Thanks.

Never. DME is pretty effecient.

Nope. The longest it has ever taken me to get from gate to resort was 85 mins.....and that was because there was a longer than usual wait for the bus to come (about 25 mins) and then Pop was the third of three stops, with a ton of luggage being off loaded at the first two stops.
Even on the Sat in early Dec that I arrived at DME to find a line back past the rental car counters, it only took 70 mins to get from gate to resort. That line was due to Pop Warner families all arriving at about the same time...complete chaos!!!

But now?? There is seldom a line to checkin. The vast majority of people are sent directly to the bus lines where their vouchers are scanned. Really no need to spend the $60 or so to get a cab.

Even when the line looks horrendously long, it isn't. By the time you get tho the line, going back to take a taxi would end up taking just as long
(if not longer) ans would, in my opinion, be a colossal waste of $60.

As for whether or not your luggage would make it to your room, the answer is yes, unless the airline misplaces your luggage. If that happens you're going to have a problem.
