I am ready to book my trip! When using Magical Express, Do you need to book your airline first so you have that info for Disney? Or, can I book Disney first than the airline? I also remember reading that if you use ME, you must use the bus. Is that true? I was thinking of meeting up with a relative at the airport, go to dinner and have them drop me off at the resort but still have the bags sent ahead. Is that possible? when I leave, I will use the full service.

Thanks for any and all help!

You can book you reservations with WDW first and add flight information when you get it. That's what we are doing for our May trip!!

Don't know about your other question though!!

We booked our room first many many months prior to our trip. And booked our flight only 2 weeks before. We had no problems with it.

My understanding is that in order for your bags to be picked by ME you must be on the bus and scaned in by the bus driver.

You must be on the bus with DME in order for your bags to be trasnported to your hotel.

Disney SPECIFICALLY will not allow DME to be a luggage-only service for arrivals.

From a business perspective, DME has two purposes: get more people to stay on-site; and get people to spend less money at off-site shops and restaurants AND get them to spend less money on rentals and car services. The more money spent at non-Disney businesses is money that Disney can't earn. If you rent a car, you've not only spent a bunch of money for the car, you also have access to restaurants and shops and other theme parks off-property, so again that means less potential money for Disney to earn. So before DME launched they thought through the process and realized if they allowed people to send their luggage to their resorts but could then rent a car or take a car service, it defeated the BUSINESS reasons for offering DME in the first place. That's why they strictly enforce that policy.
