we are thinking of staying at all star sports before we are leaving for a cruise and only staying the one night and not visiting the parks.

Can we still use Magical express without having a package?

Yes, anyone staying at a Disney resort is entitled to transportation on DME.

DME is tied to your room reservation.
If you are staying onsite you can take advantage of it.

You don't need a package to use Magical Express, just an onsite room reservation.
