Magical Express Question

Hi

we are going to Orlando next August and in the past have always hired a car straight from the airport and struggled to get all our luggage in.

I was wondering this year - we have booked direct with WDTC although I will book Virgin flights separately - whether to go on the magical express.

I think DH and DD could go off and get the hire car, I will get the bus and see them at SSR?

My only concern is how does the luggage get to the bus? Do we collect from the carousel straight after immigration, give it back after customs and them not see it again til it gets to the resort - or do we have to put it on the bus?

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

It's up to you, you can either keep it with you by not putting back on the carousel after immigration or hand it back and it will be delivered to your resort hotel a few hours later. Personally we keep it with us, but we don't have small children so a case each is no hassle.

We've used DME for most of our trips and we always collect our own luggage and put it on the bus, because we find it to just be less hassle and there's no waiting about for luggage to arrive.

I do believe after collecting luggage (between 5am and 10pm) following customs clearance, you can place luggage back on the carousel, where DME will then pick it up and deliver it to your resort but it can take several hours.

You, your DH and DD could all take the luggage to DME and then only one of you has to actually go on the bus with it, there's plenty of staff to help place your luggage under the bus/get it off again.

We have the same issue with our luggage. We now get ME and then we pick up the car from the Disney Car Care Center. We fly with Virgin so when it's time to leave we check in at DTD and then leave the car at MCO

Last summer we didn't want a 7 seater but know from experience only a 7 seater will fit the four of us and all our luggage. So we booked a smaller car, mid size SUV, and me and DD went on ME with half the luggage and DS and DH took the car with half the luggage. We arrived at POR within half an hour of each other. Worked fine, saved us £250 on car hire. On the return journey DH took all the luggage to the early Virgin check in at DTD and me and the kids took a taxi. This is a good way to save on car hire costs IMO. We can't do it next summer as we have a split stay at Universal and Disney and with the number if taxis we would need we have decided to just get the 7 seater again.
