I was wondering if you must use your Magical Express transfer from the airport to your WDW hotel on the day you check in, or is is more like one way transfer good for any time during your stay?

Our plan right now is to fly in, rent a car from MCO, stay at Universal for 2 nights, drive back to the airport, return the car, take DME to WL on our check in date, and be good to go.

But we may consider keeping the car for an extra day or two, into our WL stay, and I'm wondering if one of us can still use the DME transfer even if we've checked in to the resort?

Does anyone have any experience on this?

Yes you can use the DME anytime during your stay. You are allowed one round trip per person during your stay. You just have to call and schedule the pick up times ahead of time. You know there are several rental car companies right by WDW that you could drop the rental car off at when you are done using it. The following companies are located by DTD

Avis
Dollar

Alamo/National is located at the Dolphin and Disney Car Care Center.

We have on occasion taking the DME to WDW then a day or two into our trip we will rent from one of these locations and then drop the car off at MCO when we catch our flight.

But what about going from MCO to WDW where I won't need a pick up, I would just need to go to the counter. Do I have to schedule that?

I know there are rental companies by and in WDW but that seems like it would make it much more complicated.

I would have to find my way there from MCO and DME doesn't take you to the rental car company so there would be at least another transfer or trip. We will most likely be getting in very late so the place probably won't be open. Then we'll have to drive over to Universal because that's where we are staying first.

If you rent at MCO and go to US then just drive over to your WDW hotel when it's time and drop of bags and then return car to CCC or the Dolphin. No need to go back to MCO and take DME. Just set it up for pick-up at MCO and drop-off at CCC or Dolphin.

I am a little confused but I think that you want to take DME to Disney , pick up your car and drive to Universal to check into a hotel?

If so, that won't work. You can only use DME between MCO and your resort on days you have a resort reservation

I didn't realize I could do that. Is it an extra fee?

Day 1 fly into MCO, rent a car, drive to universal. Stay at universal for 2 nights.
Day 4 drive car back to MCO, return car,
take DME to WL (check in day at WL)

I know I can do this.

What I'm wondering is if I want to keep the car for a few more days, into my WL stay, can I return the car to MCO on day 5 (day 2 of the WL stay) and still use DME.

Yes you can. You are entitled to one round trip between WL and MCO. You'll need to call and arrange in advance what day you want to use DME after returning the car at the airport.

Yes, you need a reservation on Magical Express to use it.
