Hi all
We normally drive to WDW or take an early flight, but this weekend we fly in at almost 6 pm. I was wondering if we should pick up our own baggage and bring it to ME rather than wait for resort drop off. We are staying at AoA LM rooms.
Thanks for any input.

The rule of thumb is that your luggage should arrive up to 3 hours after your arrival however there have been reports of luggage taking longer than 3 hours so its up to you.

If you use the yellow tags then you will not be able to pick up the bags yourself unless you arrive after 10 PM.

Six PM is not borderline but does not give you that much wiggle room. If the bags don't get to your room by 10 then they will remain in the main building until morning since Pop Century and Art of Animation and the All Stars don't have delivery to the rooms after 10 PM.

If your plane gets in late then the wiggle room becomes less.

I would let Disney get your bags. Pack everything you need for 24 hours into your carry-on (always a good idea!) and you won't need to worry about getting your bags right away. Disney will deliver your ME bags until Midnight, unless you tell them to hold them until the next day. They only pick bags up at the airport until 10pm, but they will deliver them until Midnight. I know that from personal experience!

Why spend more time at the airport than you have to?

I agree.

Thanks for all the answers. Husband and the kids are only going for the weekend while I stay off site for a conference.m they will carry on but I can't do that for a week so I will use ME. So excited to go, only 4 days!

In all the times I've used ME I have never not taken my bags with me. I have never put the yellow tags on my luggage. If the airline loses a bag (which they have done before) I want to know about it when the plane lands, not when it hasn't arrived in my room by the next morning.

I like the to have the peace of mind knowing all of my bags are accounted for. We get our bags from the carousels and take them with us to ME. The driver loads them under the bus, the go with us to the resort, and luggage services gets them to the room.

And just a heads up to those that arent familiar or dont take their own bags on the bus, the two bolded items, tips are normally expected of $1-$2 per bag for that.. With DME there is no tip, as it is already taken care of.

And I guess I'm different, I dont want to be stuck at MCO trying to chase down a lost bag, I'd rather let WDW get that started for me if it happens. Plus I have stuff in my carry on to get me thru the first day / night if something bad happens. But that will be a personal choice on what you want to do.

I'm with you. If my bags are missing, they're missing. The airline will find them eventually!!! I have enough to last 24-36 hrs in my carry on. If it takes longer than 24 hrs, they'll reimburse for needed clothing items (free shopping!) Rather be at the park.

We have a direct flight so I am not worried about lost luggage but having my stuff before bedtime :)
I will put my luggage tag on since I will bringing a week of clothes and not just for the weekend. Can't wait!

I think it depends on what time of day you arrive and what you plan to do that day. If its an early arrival and you want to go to the parks I would let ME take care of it. Gets you to the parks earlier plus the likelihood of your room being available is less. If its a later arrival and more likely that your room will be ready I would bring the bags with me on the ME.

As someone who's had to deal with misdirected luggage 3 times, I feel the opposite way. Trust me, spending the first couple of hours of your vacation at the airport filling out paperwork sucks. I'd rather just let DME deal with tracking it down. Knowing about it immediately isn't going to get it back any faster.

Is this true, that you don't have the option of taking them yourself if you have the yellow tags? We have priority status on the airline, and are thinking of picking our bags from the carousel and taking them to ME so that we don't have to wait however long for them to be delivered to our room.

If you put the yellow tags on them, and your flight arrives before 10pm, your luggage won't hit the luggage carousel. It will be pulled by DME before then. So you have to decide beforehand if you want to get your bags or not, and use the yellow luggage tags accordingly.

Oh, and delivery time of yellow tagged bags is withing 3-4 hours of when you check in to your resort. Usually it is less time than that, but that is their delivery window. Do you realize that you don't have to be in your room waiting for your luggage? They will bring it up for you, and you don't have to be in your room for them to do so.

We usually just get our bags being we come either late afternoon or evening.

On our next trip though we arrive at 9:30 am so was thinking maybe let them take it.
My question is this:
If i let them p.u. my bags do i still have to get on same bus or is there something that goes right to the parks? Thnx in advance.

The DME buses only run to the resorts. No direct to park service. In order for the delivery window for your bags to start ticking you have to check in to your resort. They deliver your bags within 3-4 hours of checking in to the resort.

Ok so if I decide to pick up my bags myself, I can still board the ME bus to my resort and then take my luggage from the bus to check in to the resort. Is this correct? Since our plane arrives at 8pm I plan just to hit the resort and relax. I don't want to risk waiting for pjs until 2am nor do I want to pack them in a carry on. Thoughts are greatly appreciated!

You need to pack everything you'll need for the first 24 hours in your carry on. Trust me, luggage does get misdirected and if you think that waiting a couple of hours is bad, try waiting a couple of days.

In any case, yes to can take your luggage with you and store it under the bus, but be sure to tip the driver a couple of bucks per bag.

Yes.

You also need to know that by picking up your own luggage, you'll add at least 30 mins to your trip before boarding DME.

I would just pack PJ's in carry-ons.
