When using ME can I gather my own bags at the baggage claim and place them on the ME bus and then when we get to POP take the luggage off of the bus so that I would have it with me? I would like to have my families luggage when we arrive at POP because I have 16 and 15 yr old daughters that may change clothes several times before we actually decide which park to go to. I know that they could pack a day bag but they would like their luggage with them at POP when we get there so that they can do whatever 16 and 15 yr old girls do before they go anywhere.....

thanks

We never got our tags so we had to do just that. It wasn't a big deal either. I would say just don't tag your bags. We brought the bags to the bus and took them off, checked in and the van brought us and the luggage to our room.

For others reading this, it's important to understand that if you WANT to have your luggage handled by DME but you never receive your tags, you DON'T HAVE TO GET YOUR OWN LUGGAGE. Even if it does not have DME tags, you can still have DME handle and deliver your luggage to your resort room. You don't have to go to baggage claim to get it yourself.

If your bags aren't tagged, still skip baggage claim and go right to the DME Welcome Center. Tell them your bags aren't tagged but you still want them delivered (they will ask everyone if there are DME tags on their bags, anyway). They will ask for your baggage claim ticket numbers, and also ask you to identify your pieces of luggage using a photo array. After that, a CM will go to baggage claim on your behalf, grab your bags, and put them in with the rest of the DME luggage. In terms of your experience, this process will take YOu about one minute longer at the DME counter than it would have been if your bags were tagged.

For the OP, I know where you're coming from with teenaged girls. It sounds like claiming their own luggage will be important to them. HOWEVER, you should still encourage them to pack well in a carry-on bag, anyway, just in case the AIRLINE delays their luggage. I've done this for years and years, many years before DME was in existence. It's just smart air travel, and can prevent a big problem from being a bigger problem.

This is so true. We did not have any stop overs on our trip, so I was not really worried about the bags. Well, they never arrived with our flight, they were sent out later. Thank goodness DD packed a box with things for tehlittle one, because we never got our luggage until after 9 PM that evening.

My DH and I are debating if we should get our luggage as well. Our flight isn't arrving until 10:24pm and we have 2 children. We figure if we get our luggage than we can get to our room and not have to worry about the kids being woke up when the luggage arrives 2 or 3 hours later.

We have breakfast ADR's at 8:50am at the Crystal Palace the next day. So we need to get our rest.....

What time do you think we will get to our room??

By midnight. But you can request that your bags be delivered to your room in the morning. In fact, I think at that time of night, you're more likely to need to request that they NOT be held until morning. At any rate, I'm going to once again reiterate (and expand on) CleveRock's post.
Whenever one flies, it is always advisable to pack in one's carry on luggage: medications, documents, valuables, and whatever items of clothing/toiletries you will need for your first night and day. This might include - for each traveler - pajamas, swimsuit and a change of clothes. In 2005 alone, the airlines misdirected over three million pieces of checked luggage, and 200,000 of those were permanently lost.

I agree.... We will still pack a carry on. I just didn't want our kids to get woken up. They are going to be excited as it is this is our First time going to Disney.

Thanks for the info!

Whatever you decide about your checked bags, you should always pack a day bag when you travel by air. Put all your medications, toiletries and a day's worth of clothes in it just in case your luggage decides to vacation in Omaha instead of WDW.
