Magical Express Luggage Question

I just read on the Disney website that you cannot get luggage service only that you have to be on board the motor coach for them to pick up your luggage.

Does anyone know if this is accurate? How do they know if all the luggage is tagged that you dont ride the motor coach and not to get your bags? I was planning to get a rental car and use magical express for my luggage but now I am not sure it is an option.
