We really like to have a car available... but we also like the no-hassle of having luggage delivered to the room.

If we sign up for DME... and use the luggage tags... but then we decide not to check-in at the DME counter and rent our car instead... what happens?

I know that this is not the intended purpose of DME... but I suspect that you will still get your luggage delivered OK. Does anyone know for sure?

I do know that on the return trip, there is no problem checking luggage in at the hotel. That service has nothing to do with DME.

P.S. The real answer is to only use carry-on luggage... but DW insists on taking an extra suitcase :(

They wont take your bags unless you are on the bus. Bags dont get loaded untill you check in at ME in the airport.

Q. Can I book a "luggage-only" transfer?

A. No. To utilize Disney's Magical Express Service, you must participate in both the motor coach transportation and the luggage transfer services.

Why don't one of you rent the car and one of you go with the luggage? or just rent a car onsite.

We did do that once... I think all 4 of us were going down... and two rode the bus while two drove in the car. Now days... more often it is just my wife and I flying in together, and the kids arrive on various days. I hate to send her as baggage fodder on the bus.

When the kids arrive... they always take DME.

In the early days of DME, we did rent a car at the Dolphin. It was actually once cheaper to do that since you didn't have to pay the airport taxes for rental cars. Now it seems to be much more expensive to rent at the Dolphin instead of the airport. I think they changed the price structure to discourage people from taking DME and renting their cars at the hotel. The hotel is not set up for a large operation. We are at OKW now... and our 13 day rental is $188 for a mid size. It was much more expensive if we rented at the Dolphin.

I have found Dollar (across from DTD ) to be the only one thats not chargeing the Hotel fees now and still cheaper then the Airport.

But sometimes they will not release the bags until the bus voucher is scanned in from the bus driver. This is how it's suppose to work as there might be last minute changes not reflexed until you check-in at the DME desk.

I wouldn't want to risk having to go back and get my bags but others have had them go through .
