Can I use Magical Express with a room only reservation? Also, if I have a really early flight, would it be better (i.e, give me a few more minutes at the hotel) to take a cab?

Yes. DME is available to any guest staying in a Disney-owned resort at WDW.

For your return to the airport DME will schedule your pick up time for approximately three hours before your scheduled flight departure (four hours for an international flight) and you should plan to be at the pick-up location 10-15 minutes before that time. You are not able to schedule a later pick up and can't rely on just catching a later bus (there may not be one and if there is it might not have any space for you).

If you plan to get to the airport two hours before your flight then you can save yourself about 30 minutes and catch a cab about 2.5 hours before your flight. If you are more of a gambler and will be comfortable arriving at the airport later you can buy even more time. You will pay $50-60 plus tip for this extra time.
