From what I understand about the ME service you have 2 options for you luggage: you can have them get it at the airport and deliver it to your room or you can go ahead and plan to claim it at baggage claim like "normal" and take it to the bus yourself so you have it as soon as you arrive.

Correct?

So, can you split this up? Have them pick up SOME of you suitcases, but plan to pick up one or two yourself? I would like to pack one bag with a few things for the first night, in case it really is 5 or more hours before I get everything else. I would get it from the baggage claim myself, and take it to the bus and then not have to wait for everything else.

I would pack "essentials" in my carry on. I realize there is always a risk of the airline "misplacing" any one of my bags, but I would like to have one bag with some gifts and snacks, and one set of jammies and probably our toiletries and some extra clothes for "just in case" that I know is going from the airport to our room in my hands.

Can I do this????

You absolutely can "split up" your checked luggage. Look at their process, and then you'll realize it's a no-brainer.

Behind the scenes at MCO, people pull suitcases tagged with special DME tags, and let the rest go through to the baggage claim carousel. The specially-tagged, pulled bags are transported by truck to the proper WDW resorts. All the other bags are claimed by their owners at baggage claim, the way things work at every other airport in the world. WDW doesn't know and doesn't care who owns the non-tagged bags. All they know is that if any bags have YOUR DME tags on them, they'll get delivered to YOUR resort room. If you have any untagged bags that you get yourself and take to the DME bus yourself, they don't know and they don't care. I hope this makes sense.

We haven't even made flight arrangements yet (still not sure if flying or driving) so I didn't know what the ME arrangements were. I didn't know if it was tied to your actual check in and the checked baggage tags from the airline and thus all or nothing.

Thanks for clarifying. This will help in my decision!
