We are flying Delta from Westchester County Airport. Unfortunately, we have to have a stoppover (both ways) in Atlanta before landing in Orlando. Has anyone had experience using ME with connecting flights??? Has it gone smoothly??? No lost luggage???

Every flight I have ever taken to Orlando has had a connection and I have never had luggage problems.

Same here.

I'm guessing that over 90% of people who use ME have connecting flights.

If the luggage is lost due a connecting flight, it would be the airline's fault, not ME's.

I can't see how a connecting flight would have any impact on DME's service.

The reason for this is because Disney's Magical Express doesn't exist outside of Orlando. Your airline knows nothing about it, and they don't need to. Tp the airline, the yellow DME luggage tag is as meaningless as a ribbon or some yarn you tie around the luggage handle to help you recognize it.

In fact, that is the initial role that the DME tag serves. It is ignored until the luggage arrives in Orlando. At that point, bags tagged with DME tags are pulled from the luggage stream and brought to Disney's luggage sorting facility on the grounds of the airport.

In other words, until that bag is off-loaded at MCO (Orlando Int'l Airport), it is not treated any differently than any other bag, because it IS no different than any other bag. This is why using DME will not in any way affect your bags on a connecting flight.

As Cleve said, there is no impact of DME on luggage anymore then any other flight in the country, Especially once you are off MCO turf, at that point no one knows or cares what DME is :)

Thanks, you guys! :-)
I was just worried-- we've had connecting flights before (and been forturnate enough to get NON-connecting AirTran flights out of Westchester!), but never used DME. I guess I was getting panicky for no reason!

Something to be aware of, though.

If the airline does lose your luggage, you won't realize it until hours after you get to your resort and it doesn't show up.

Precautions to take:
1. Keep your claim checks
2. Be sure you can give a very good description of your luggage by phone
3. Use study tags with your name and address and a mobile phone number
4 Put a piece of paper inside with the same information in case the tag comes off

Just remember to give DME the flight number of the flight going into MCO - not the first leg out of your home airport. I almost didn't think of that when I added my flight info to my reservation. (Also the flight number from MCO if you're traveling on a participating airline if you're going to use RAC).
