MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

I had a cruise dream last night. I dreamed that they changed the way they do meals and that you get a list of amazing foods to choose from, but only certain ones are "included" with the price of your cruise. I found that out the hard way when I was served a beautiful delicious steak and then got a bill for $89.99. Ay yi yi. I could've had the "meatloaf burger" for "free."

Hello. We are going on the Christmas Cruise this year (our 4th Disney Cruise)...I saw some references to an Ornament exchange....sounds intriguing...we have 2 DD (and of course a DW)....

DisneyCamper and family -- welcome! I'm Cindy D., traveling with DH Gary and boys Nathan (age 12) and Zachary (age 11). This trip is a surprise trip for the boys for Christmas. It will be our 4th DCL cruise.

There is an ornament exchange being organized, and some of us are planning to bring trinkets / small gifts or momentos to pass out to our fellow DISBoarders. Many of us will have a "Fish Extender" which we'll hang from our "fish" that is outside the doors to our cabins (where DCL staff leave notes, etc. for you) which make it convenient for fellow DISers to deliver their things. And there is some discussion about doing a group t-shirt and also having a Secret Santa.

The big thing is having a meet-and-greet on sailaway day. We haven't set an official time / location yet but will before we sail :)

Welcome DisneyCamper!
We have app. 7 doing the ornament exchange so far. We'll all bring a Christmas ornament :santa: and just draw numbers or something of the like. We haven't formally discussed it but I would think that it didn't have to be Disney-related unless you'd like it to be.

The fish extender gifts can be just about anything. We've received temporary tattoos , Mickey head magnets, bubbles, candy, a door hanger, even beads strung onto an alligator clip to wear on pirate night. It's so much fun just getting a little surprise something at your door. I can't wait to do it this year.

One last thing, I'm putting together a digital scavenger hunt to do around the ship on an at sea day. It'll have to be our first at sea day as I wouldn't think people would want to do it on Christmas Day itself. The more the merrier! :goodvibes

I am seriously excited about the scavenger hunt and can't wait to see what you come up with. The boys will absolutely love it. I mentioned to them that I had read about a group that was going to do a digital scavenger hunt and they said it sounded like fun. I didn't tell them it was our group :)

Welcome DisneyCamper!!:yay: My traveling group is me, dh, dd (10), and dd (7). We are all so excited for this Disney Cruise. This is dh and my 4th cruise but our 1st Disney cruise and our girls first ever cruise.

I am in total packing mode. We leave for Disney World tomorrow. I cannot wait to get out of here and go on vacation. We are driving so we will not be to OKW until Friday around lunch time. I am taking my laptop so I will check in on the Christmas cruise board.

Everyone have a great rest of your week.
Lissa, I hope your Disney vacation was wonderful!

Angie

Angie,
Have a fabulous time! You're bringing your laptop to check in?!? Such dedication!!!! ;)
We're trying to plan a long weekend at Food and Wine in October but I'm having serious second thoughts today. We adopted two eight year old Akitas, a boy :dog2: and a girl :dog: , a month ago and it's been rocky at times. I didn't think they'd bond with us easily, boy was I ever wrong. I've got a dog with separation issues now. It's him, not her. We've been through the chewing stage, that's over, thankfully. Now we're into the jump through the front casement window to find the mama stage. My neighbor put them both in my backyard because I was out and the house was locked. It's frightening. My house is too small for two enormous crates, Burton is 130 lbs and Taylor's 110 lbs. The first time I wrote it off to chasing a cat, which comes occasionally to harass the dogs or even possibly a robber. But today, he apparently tried to get out after I went to work. I'm beside myself. We've been told that if they don't work out with us then they'd probably have to be put down becase no one wants to adopt two bonded eight-year-old large dogs. Here I thought we'd be doing something good.... :sad2:

Were back. Landed late last night and just finished unpacking everything. I love not bringing home dirty clothes. I hate doing laundry when we get home from a trip. We had a wonderful time at WDW but I'm really looking forward to this cruise. I kept seeing all those DCL buses and couldn't help wishing i was on one. I did recieve bad news while we were gone the school I was teaching at closed :scared1: . Now i've got to get busy and pray i find another job quickly. Not a good way to end a vacation.

I am glad to hear you and your family had a great vacation.
That is a bummer about your job. Happy Job Searching!!

We just checked into OKW today, we got here at noon and our room was ready for us. It was a very easy experience and we got a beautiful room in a great location. Dh is at the grocery store right now while I put everything away and then we are off to DTD for dinner at Rainforest.

Angie

Starting to get more and more excited about the Christmas cruise! :santa: We even bought fabric to make a fish extender. Wish us luck!

Anna posted on the tween thread; no one else had since February. Any other kids interested in meeting online before the cruise?

Angie I hope you and your family have a wonderful time at WDW. We've never stayed st OKW but are thinking of staying there in April it looks like a nice resort.

Lissa

After much deliberation - we've decided to stay with our Christmas cruise! :santa: I'll try to go back and read the various posts to try to get to "know" everyone. Have a great day all!

Lisa

Lisa (njmom) - congratulations on your decision! YAY!

Lissa - sorry 'bout the job - hope you're able to find something else quickly and that will be flexible for you to still make the cruise.

Stillwater -- my boys would be interested in meeting online ahead of time only it's still a SURPRISE (just four months to go).

I got our fish extender made except for the decorative part for the front of the pockets - I have the stuff to do it but the link that has what I want is on the boys' computer and I keep forgetting to mail it to myself. And I also need to figure out if I want to shorten the dowel rod I have or do something different for "final attachment"... but it came out pretty well - I love my fabric choices. It's definitely not a professional job but it turned out pretty good for my first time making it up as I went along :) Definitely functional.

I've been giving some thought to what we're going to bring for our fish-extender gifts for you all -- so y'all be sure to pack those fish extenders! Or bring something to hang from your fish 'cause we want to make some deliveries! :santa:

Oh - do we have a cabin-directory for us DISers yet? We need to make sure to have one early enough in December for taking with us so we'll know where we're dropping things off!

A friend of ours from church just came back from Cozumel with some fabulous Dolphin Experience photos -- I'm thinking someone(s) here were thinking about doing a dolphin encounter? Can someone catch me up? She said it was much cheaper doing it on their own (by about $80) vs. what the cruise line charged (Carnival). DH loved the pics and so did Zachary - so we may want to do that for our Cozumel stop.... definitely putting it on the list to explore.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. School starts tomorrow - ay yi yi.

Hi Everyone!
Well so far, here at OKW, our weather has been beautiful. However, we need wishes that Fay decides not to track right through WDW. We have Cinderella Castle Breakfast reserverations at 8a.m. on Wednesday morning. We will have to see what happens. My dh is such a go with the flow kind of person. I am one of those kind of people that if my schedule does not go the way I planned it, I get crazy.
I hope everyone else is having a great week.

Angie

Hi everyone!

Just got back from a week in Dallas! Mitchell was lucky enough to be nominated for the Education in Action Learning Academy for Gifted and Talented students. We didn't want him to pass up this opportunity so we packed up the family and drove over 600 miles for him to go! DH, myself and our two girls rented a log cabin chalet on Lake Cypress Springs in Mt. Vernon for the week and were BORED OUT OF OUR MINDS!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I am definately NOT the outdoorsy type. It didn't help that it rained almost every day and it was torture trying to keep a 4 y.o.:cutie: entertained for a week in the woods. And to top it off, when we finally got home, our AC was dead.:headache: We called the heating and cooling guy, again packed it up, and headed to a hotel for the night. On the bright side, Mitchell LOVED the camp! and wants to go again next year (next year the camp will be in Austin for 7th graders, much closer!) DH says he will be taking Mitchell next year by himself! I wonder why!?!?:confused3 :lmao:

Now with that trip nightmare over:rolleyes: , we are all- go- no- quit- 100% focused on preparing for this cruise. :cool1: I have found the Christmas stockings I want to buy for our fish extenders and I bought our ornament for the exchange while visiting Fort Worth.

I am off to work tonight (Thank God, I am on family overload, ha ha ha!:rotfl: ) and have to finish up school preparations this week. School starts next Monday, the 25th.:scared1:

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Amy mentioned a little ways back about doing the Dolphin Encounter. I believe if we get a big enough group we could get a discount. I'm sure she'll come in and remind us what she had found out.

We're preparing for Fay here. Then Thursday morning, I'm heading to WDW for a scrapbooking crop. Our first day of school is tomorrow, and right now they're saying it's only going to be a half day because of the storm. School will be closed on Tuesday, so what's the point!?!?

For those of you in the projected path of Fay please stay safe.

As for the job there are only a few teaching openings because school is getting ready to start here. Matt starts back to culinary school tomorrow.

I really hope there is enough of us to do the dolphin excursion as it would be the only way I would be able to do it. No one else in my family wants to do it and fro some reason my mom is not comfortable with me going off by muself with the disney excursion group. Who knows why but even as an adult I try to do what she ask. Take care everyone.

Lissa

One of the guys who works with DH boarded the Magic just today to make the trip back to FL, and we have other friends who leave on their first ever cruise tomorrow morning. In fact DD's friend is here right now trying to find a dress she can borrow for formal night.
(not exactly compulsive planners are they?) :rotfl:

I have to admit I was feeling a little pouty until I logged on here. You guys have made me feel a bit better with all the cruise chat. Now I guess I can hold out until December. I'm sure our Christmas Cruise will be well worth the wait.
:thumbsup2

Sounds like lots of our kid cruisers will be back to the books soon. We don't start school until after Labor Day here, but things get crazy next week anyway with walk through registrations, team camps and practices, etc.

Hi!
Well, so far I have 6 in for the ornament exchange:
BearFan
Alikat99
Minnie 1
DisneyZell
Sailing Shamu
Tinkerbell 29

Lisa Marie

Lisa,

You can add us to the ornament x-change list. We're in too! :santa:

I'd love to see pictures of everyone's fish extenders, whether they're works in process, or completed masterpieces... gotta know what to look for as we wander the hallways of the Magic.

Welcome DisneyCamper!

Lisa,
I'm glad you've decided to stick with this cruise.

Lissa,
I hope the job search is going well. Not a fun thing, but hopefully this will be one of those times when you end up better off than you were before.

Angie,
I hope the weather cooperates, your vacation goes according to plan, and that you all have a great time.

Shannon,
Sounds like a great experience for Mitchell.
Tanner had quite the adjustment when we moved last year. He had been in a pull out program where he just went to GATE classes for math and reading (meaning there was some serious coasting going on in other subjects) but our new district has a full time differentiated GATE program. It took him awhile to get into the swing of things... but I think it was a good change overall.

hello peoples my name is anna and im 13. i have a twin bro named alex. i will be on the xmas cruise and if any of of your tweens are interested please have them post on the tween xmas cruise board! thanx, anna:lmao:

Hey Everyone! just wanted to let ya'll know I started a TR of our WDW trip over on the trip report board. I'd post a link but can't figure out how. The title is 14 Magical days at WDW. I also got a job that won't interfer with the cruise. Yeah I was worried about that because we did not want to have to cancel.

Praying that everyone in the path of Fay is safe and sound.

Lissa
