Sorry so many questions, I'm trying to do my homework before we go 6/6/01 for a WDW stay at CS. What is Magical Beginnings? Any advise re: DVC purchase would be appreciated.

MB is a down payment incentive plan. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the current offer is they will by back half of your points at $5. per point..I believe up to a max of $2000. This program was changed when they began selling WLV's. Prior program paid $10. per point up to $2,000.

VB and HH I believe still have a better by back rate available in their MB programs. (not 100% sure about that though)

If you don't need the financial help, it really isn't a very good plan. The rule of thumb is a DVC point is worth $10. (at least that's what people ask for when renting their points) So if Disney is only offering half the going rate, it really isn't a good investment of your points. If you need the financial assistnace, you might consider keeping your points and renting them for $10 a point..you'll get a better return on your investment and you'll have more $$'s towards the purchase price!

Magical beginnings is when you purchase DVC you cansell back your first years points. If you buy at WLV you would get 5 a point. If you buy at Vero you would get 10 a point I believe. Wether this is a good deal depends if you will use the points or not, and also wether you would do better banking the points and not selling them back. Only you can know that.

MB is currently $5 at VWL and $10 at VB and HH. This applies on up to all of your 1st years points.

The program has changed many times over the last 3 years, so make sure to ask your vacation guide to explain the current status of the program.

It is a means to lower your purchase cost. Most will agree that the $5 per point is not a great deal- since you will still pay dues on those points. The $10 per point at VB and HH is still viable.

Enjoy your tour!

Yes, we can confirm that the VB is $10 per point on all your first year's points (or you can exchange less). We've just closed on an additional 100pts at VB and opted for the $1000 rebate which was nice to help us up front. Clearly, you have to off-set this against not being able to use them but for us this seemed a good deal at $10/pt, like the previous post we thought $5 a point was too marginal for the others but we didn't let that dictate where we were adding on at. :smooth:

The VB and HH Magical Beginnings programs may sound very attractive but remember buy where you plan to stay. If you want to primarily spend your vacations at WDW then you should buy at a WDW DVC resort. That being said many people find many times that there is 7 month availability at OKW. However, if you want to guarantee a WDW stay during a peak time of the year then definitely buy at a WDW resort.

I have nothing additional to add except that we have used MB on both our original purchase and on our add-on.

I just really wanted to welcome another Tennessean to the DVC Boards.

We actually signed up for MB for our purchase at VWL. WHen we signed the papers, we didn't realize that it was not a good deal. Unfortunately, we called to late to get it taken off. In retrospect, I wish we would have kept the points. But it did help with the downpayment. But this was just our experience.
