I am looking at booking a cruise for April 2017. I have noticed that magic is around 800.00 cheaper for a family of 3 than dream. Sailing 1 day apart from each other. Opinions if dream is really worth the extra money?

Are the cruises the same? Length, itinerary?

Yes. Both are same room category. I have a 6 year old son. I was worried that Magic may not have the same amount of activities for him, but I agree that 800.00 is a pretty big jump.

That's a personal choice. We prefer the smaller ships because they're more intimate. But loads of people prefer the larger ships because of how high tech they are. $800 is a lot of money to me and is the difference of doing a few port adventures or maybe a spa day compared to just being on the ship.

My 7 year old preferred the Magic. Both my DH and I wholeheartedly agree with her. Initially, I was concerned if we would like the magic as well as we liked the Dream, but it was better.

We missed the Midship Detective Agency, but there were so many other things going on, it was barely a footnote. DD liked the kid's areas and the shows on the Magic better. It's smaller, more intimate and if you're going to Castaway Cay, half as many people!

She also liked the Twist N Spout slide on the Magic better than the Mickey slide on the Dream. She didn't miss the Aqua Duck.

For me, for $800, it's a no-brainer.

I have been on both and love the Dream but did not like the Magic nearly as much. HOWEVER, when I say I didn't like the Magic as much it is like saying I love Dark Chocolate and you gave me milk chocolate. Milk chocolate is good so I am still going to eat it especially if it is $800 cheaper. For the $800 I would sail on the Magic and use that money for something. But watch out the Dream does not do 3 and 4 day trips now. It also has 5 day double dips and those would be worth the $800 and then some.

I have been on both the Magic and Wonder, so I was hoping to find a Dream or Fantasy cruise for our next cruise. It is looking like the only option for what and when we want will be the Wonder (of course that is 2018, can't say for sure what they will decide before they release the schedule). The more I thought about it though the more I decided that I don't care which ship I am on. This is DCL, there are no bad ships!

So if this is your first cruise then I say it doesn't matter. The only reason I could think of the Dream being worth the up-charge is if you have already sailed on the Magic and really want to experience the newer ship. There is so much to do that neither you nor your son will be bored no matter which option you choose.

I definitely prefer the Dream class ships but I'd easily save the $800 and go on the Magic.

June and early July of 2017 have the 5 day cruises on the Dream.
I was asking when they stopped doing 3 & 4 night cruises. You said "But watch out the Dream does not do 3 and 4 day trips now." Was there a "just" missing in there?

Yup. Fat fingers. It does not just do the 3 and 4 day trips. Now there a few 5 day trips.
