We are interested in the magic shots with the Disney photographers. Is there a list of locations and options? Do you have any examples you can share? Thanks!!

WDW posted this in November:

When visiting one of the locations listed below, simply ask a Disney PhotoPass Photographer for an Animated Magic Shot.
Epcot, behind Spaceship Earth
Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Hollywood Boulevard
Epcot, at Norway Pavilion
Disney’s Animal Kingdom, bridge near Expedition Everest

DD got the EPCOT and DHS ones.

There are all kinds of lists, but none of them will necessarily be accurate. These things can change on a daily basis.

When you are getting your picture taken, just ask the photographer, "Can you do any magic shots?" If they can, they will.

Don't bother asking if the camera is on a tripod. The photographer won't be able to.

Here's a website I found to be helpful. http://capturingmagic.me/photopass-magic-shots

  • Epcot, behind Spaceship Earth (None of the photographers here could help me this trip, but hopefully you have better luck!)
  • Epcot, at Norway (where Sven will be added, check it out on the Disney Parks Blog!)
  • Hollywood Studios, along Hollywood Boulevard, you’ll find Honey Lemon (this replaced the Sulley one I posted)
  • Hollywood Studios, in front of the Arch, you’ll find Baymax
  • Hollywood Studios, Osborne Lights, where you’ll find 2 different animated magic shots: Sven with Christmas Lights, and Olaf
  • Animal Kingdom, on the bridge near Expedition Everest
  • Magic Kingdom, during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, at the Toy Soldier photo spot, you’ll find Prep and Landing

I love the shots with the wings. DD5 will love those. I hope we find a photographer that does that shot.

I did a magic shot a couple of years ago at Animal Kingdom where my sister was holding a baby Simba. It was adorable!

In MK: Has anyone mentioned the one with Sebestian in your hand yet? It's over by the Voyage of the Little Mermaid ride and I've only seen the photographer there in the mornings.

On the bridge to Tomorrowland, there is sometimes a roaming photographer who can take a picture of you posted like Elsa and there is snow coming from your hand. I have never managed to get this one despite trying 4 times so far. LOL

In Hollywood Studios - Main street I have been posed like I was surprised and pointing at the ground and Stitch popped up in the Magic Shot.

In Epcot - Back in World Showcase during Flower and Garden Festival, I was posed and had butterflies in my hand. I only saw that photographer at 11:15AM one morning though.

In AK: I asked for a magic shot during the walk towards the Tree of Life and got Jiminy Cricket floating down to my hand. They used to do people holding Baby Simba there so I was happily surprised when it changed.

Stupid question: what is a magic shot??
A digitally manipulated photo that adds a graphic image to your posed photo.

For instance, my DH and I posed with our hands clasped together in front of us at the San Diego Zoo. The finished photo showed a real Panda cub in our hands. The finished product just depicts a very fun experience.

We've always just stumbled upon the magic shots. We stop for many of the photopass photographers, and not infrequently the photographer will just ask us to pose a certain way (without necessarily saying they're doing a magic shot).

Magic shots we've had include:
- Us pointing and looking surprised at Stitch coming out of the ground (twice in HS: once on Sunset Blvd with the ToT in the background, once on Hollywood Blvd with the hat in the background)
- DD holding balloons (taken at the Japan pavilion, facing the lake in EPCOT; along Hollywood Blvd in HS; on Main St facing the castle)
- DD or me holding Tinker Bell (near Asia, facing the water around the Tree of Life in AK; several locations facing the castle in MK; on the steps of the pyramid at the Mexico pavilion in EPCOT)
- The whole family being scared by ghosts outside the Haunted Mansion (taken during MNSSHP)

There are others I can't off-hand remember.

Another one we had done was pretending to be cold and Olaf was next to us with snow. That was in AK if I remember right.

That's exactly what we do -- we just ask every photographer with a hand-held camera if they do any magic shots. We usually end up with several each trip.

The only real rule about magic shots is if the photographer is using a tripod, they can't do them. (Technically they could unmount it and do one, but they usually don't and they also usually work better in the day when they aren't using tripods) Beyond that a given photographer needs to be trained on a particular shot, so not all of them can do them.

My favorite one was taken in HS in the Fantasmic theatre. The photographer had my kids go sit down on a bench in front of the water & he took their pic. I had no idea he was doing a Magic Shot.

When I viewed it the next day, sitting right beside them on their bench was Stitch eating an ice-cream cone!!

Here's one with my son about 5 years ago.. He jumped while the photographer took his picture and added the magic shot.. If I remember, he had to jump several times to get the in the 'right' place on the photo.. grin..

We got a magic shot in France in Epcot from a photographer on a tripod. We told her we were looking for Chip and she said that she had him.

We also just ask the photographers if they do them. We got Pascal shots in front of Rapunzel's tower, Stitch at AK and DHS, Olaf in front of the castle in MK (near the partners statue), balloons in AK, Sven in DHS, Chip in front of Beast's castle on the bridge (from a photographer with a tripod), and a few others. If we forgot to ask, you can be sure the kids remembered! They had so much fun. We called them the "surprised face" photos, LOL.
