Just got our cabin number for March 22 - 1048.

I'm fairly disappointed to be on the first deck. Any suggestions from you veterans out there for getting this changed? Or should I even care?

I think I read somewhere that the windows are smaller on deck 1?

Thanks for the help!

Instead of one large porthole, you will have to small ones. I have a photo on my website at www.castawayclub.com
If you booked through a travel agent, they can request a change. If not, just give DCL a call yourself and see if anything is available. We've been on just about every deck, but not deck 1, so I cannot give a person opinion.

Found the place on the site where the picture should be, but I don't see it in the list. Can you help point me to it?

Thanks,
Jane

Thanks, I found it. Can't say I feel any better.... DU says they can't help as the cruise is fairly full - does this sound right?

This was one of the two rooms we had on the Magic about a year ago. No complaints really. Just if you have to disembark at the other end of the ship you have to go up one deck and then down to the other end of the ship.

I *really* liked it because we had rough seas so we got to watch/hear the waves splash by. We have some great pics of that, I'll have to dig them out and post one.

We had this cabin and the two on either side of it last February on the Magic...actually this week last year!!!!

The rooms were great. I get so upset when I hear people unhappy about being on Deck 1. We have stayed on Deck 8, Deck 6, Deck 2 and Deck 1 over the course of our 7 DCL cruises. I must say decks 1 and 2 are WONDERFUL!!!

You will find it so pleasant when you get on and off the ship in ports because there is no pushing and endless waiting for the elevator on port days (which can happen). You just walk down the hall to your cabin. We really enjoyed Deck 1. It was quiet where we were and it was only a few stairs away from the atrium and restaurants and shops. We also found it much easier to get an elevator from the lower floors (most of the time). Every deck onboard is the same....once you walk out your cabin door on Deck 8 or Deck 1 the halls looks the same. People think it is like being in the "basement" of the ship...not so!!!!

Don't be worried about the location...it was great!!!

Have a wonderful cruise!!

Thanks for the good review! The twin portholes seem small - can anyone give a sense of their size?

Unfortunately, in this case things are NOT much larger than they appear in the photo! The dual portholes are MUCH smaller than the one large window in the other staterooms. If I recall correctly, they are also sort of recessed.

Hotter showers and more water pressure too! You are closer to the boilers...

Less motion of the ship in rough seas...

The glass is half-full :)

GenieDana, I like how you look at things!
Although we have never been on deck 1, I think I would prefer a dual porthole stateroom in a quiet area to a big deck 2 porthole under a nightclub :D
I am a real stickler for peace & quiet...I don't mind engine noise, but I hate hallway traffic. That's why I love the aft staterooms even though some people do not like them due to the metal verandahs. I suspect that the dual porthole rooms have some very good points too.
