Magic or dream in October?

Hello,
I’m thinking of booking a Disney cruise for this October. I’m debating between the magic out of New York or the dream out of Florida. We live in CT and it would be easier and cheaper to drive to New York instead of flying to Florida. Also the dream cruise will be 3 nights and magic will be 4. I’m just not sure which one to do. It will cost at least 1200 more for the dream because we would have to fly in two days early and leave one day later because flights are high the rest of the days. We would do MNSSHP before the cruise, and that is my favorite party.
This is a bonus trip because we’re going to Disney for 8 days in June. I’m trying to keep it as cheap as possible but I’m worried we will be disappointed in the Magic. Since it won’t be hot we won’t be able to swim and I’m not sure if there will be enough things to keep us busy. We have a eight year old son. Also we wouldn’t get to go t castaway cay which is disappointing.
Any opinions would be great! Thanks!

Where is the magic going? I personally would do the magic for the extra day and convenience no matter the itenerary, but I also haven’t been on her yet.

Given your location and the number of nights, I would def choose the 4nt out of New York. I can't imagine flying from CT to FL for such a short cruise, but that is just my opinion. What is the Magic's itinerary? We sailed on the Magic out of NY in October for a 7nt and liked it very much.

Have you thought about cutting your WDW trip short and sailing while you are already in FL, making it a land and sea vacation?

It’s going to Saint John Canada. I’m just worried there won’t be much to do because it will be cold on the boat.

Thank you. It’s going to Saint John Canada. Did you find a lot to do on the cruise? Also was the water rough?! This will be my sons and husband first cruise and I worry about them having a bad time and not wanting to go back.

I looked into doing the cruise in June but the prices were really high. Double the cost of the cruise in October out of New York.

We were in a similar situation we live in NJ and opted for the same cruise you are doing. We then ended up having to switch to one of the 5 night out of NY to Bermuda because the dates worked better for us. I do love the itinerary you are doing and really wanted to stick with that one, but it wasn't going to work. I am very worried about the rocky waters in NY. I am coming fully armed with seabands, bonine, ginger, and maybe even a patch. Coming prepared. I am looking forward to not flying, and no pre-hotel. It is Going to save us a lot of money. Giving it a try!

We did a 7 night out of New York last October. We lucked out and the weather was great and unusually warm in New York. We went south (CC and WDW), so can't comment on the itinerary you're looking at, but our sea days (there were 4) were packed. With Halloween, Pirate Night and Marvel Day at Sea, we were busier than we would have liked. I'm sure for a short 4-night, there will be lots of activities planned and the pools are heated, so I wouldn't count them out. We're from CT, too, and I have to admit it was great to be home by 10am.

You will find lots to do in Saint John. October can be a warm month and really pretty with the fall colours. When you are on the open sea the pools might be cold, but when the ship is docked and the sun is shining it will probably be warm enough for a quick swim.

Castaway Cay would make it worth it for me to go to Florida, and I also would rather have a day at Magic Kingdom than an extra day at sea. But that is just me. Think this is one where everyone is going to have a different take on this.

Just off a 7 day cruise and only went in the pool a couple of times. Didn't want to when it was chilly and when it was hot on the last sea day it was packed and the pools are so small, so we steered the kids elsewhere. There's so much to do that it's fine not to go in the pools, especially if they enjoy the club.

Do you want a warmer beachy vacation or a cooler foliage viewing type of vacation? FL and the Bahamas will still be nice and warm in the low 80s and the water especially will be super warm from the summer temps. New York and Canada, as I’m sure you know, will probably be lucky to be in the 60s.

If you just want a Disney cruise, do the Magic. It’ll be cheaper and easier logistics. By if you’ll feel disappointed if the weather isn’t really good for pool and there’s no beach or castaway cay, then do the Dream.
