how do these work and where do you get them?do you need a separate one for each park or do you just buy one and its good everywhere thanks daveb

We found ours in the Contemporary resort, but I believe you can buy them in all the parks also.

At certain points in parades, shows, and rides the pins are triggered and light up. It lasts quite awhile! Or you can push them and they'll go through the sequence just once. We found out that ours also were triggered by a 100 years statue near the elevators in the CR. It was neat to begin and end the day with the "show".

They have 5 pins....one for each park and one with the 100 years logo on it....but they all work in any park.

BTW, be prepared to spend alot on these....they're $15 each and they come with 2 extra batteries, but I've heard that on long trips they'll need to be replaced more often. Also, you may want to buy some of the rubber backs because the metal ones they come with don't always hold that well.

as NKJZMOM said, these pins are expensive.... I also noticed on my recent trip this past week, the price had gone up to $15 + tax for these pins. I bought mine in December of 2001 for only $10.00 (I just opened it this past week when I returned to WDW, and it still had the price on it from when I purchased it!!!) IMHO it's almost Criminal that Disney would have such a jump in price in 1 year!!
however, they are fun to watch light up in the different rides and attractions! I'm just glad I got mine last year!

Okay I was all set to pay that price because it sounded neat... but then you had to mention it doesn't hold well without rubber backs also being bought. What? So it doesn't hold well unless you buy something ELSE for the back? *sigh*

if it makes you feel any better, I used the pin all last week, with the metal pins it came with, and it held fine, it never fell off once, and I wore it every day for 8 days.....also, if you loose a backing, just ask any cast member at one of the pin stations, they will always give you one if you show that them the backing was lost. (at least they did that for me last year when I was there)

You know...I got mine Feb of 02 and they worked GREAT! I absolutely love mine! I didn't have problems with the backings, but if it is an issue, you might swap out backings of some you might have at home already???

Also, Feb of '02 I paid $15.00 and actually I sent $$ with a friend who picked one up early for me in Dec of 01 and still paid $15...

Can't wait till next week when I get to take them down with me AGAIN!

It's lots of fun! I wore mine for our entire week's vacation last year, and never had to replace the batteries. I'll proabably replace them before we go again this year, though.

I did have a rough time with the pin backs coming off, but when I went to a pin station to try to buy a couple of the rubber ones, the CM asked why I needed them. When I told her, she just gave them to me, even though I hadn't actually lost them.

Other than that, they're very nifty, and definitely add to the magic (that is, if you don't have a geek husband who's constantly trying to figure out where the signal transmitter is)!
