Staying off site in Sep so should we arrive early for rope drop when EMH will be in effect from 7 - 8?

This whole "Extra Extra Magic Hours" thing, along with the crowds for Galaxy's Edge opening, is pretty unprecedented. I would guess that if you are there early and NOT heading to 7DMT or PP, you could probably still beat the big crowds. I don't know, though, there could be many thousands of people already in the park by 8 AM. Are you able to do late night touring? That might be better.

No...if you cant take in the EMH I would go to another park. EMH will bring larger crowds for on-site guests without park hoppers. How much is debatable but it happens.

For the instances when you don't have a choice I would start at another park (use my FP+ there) and hop to MK later in the afternoon/evening and stay till close.

If you don't have park hoppers, then I would advise hitting MK later in the morning or mid day and plan on staying through close with your FP+ scheduled for as early as you think you will want to be there and adding them throughout the day after your 3rd is used.

The key would be to not be over anxious when scheduling your FP+ as you will want to be there when it closes so if you've got a 10pm closing and don't think you can handle 8 hours in the park, don't make your first FP+ from 1-2. Be conservative with being there in the last hour the park is open as a priority.

There are EMH every morning at MK, HS and AK when the OP will be there. Can't really avoid it.
