My sister is planning a short vacation to WDW, and since I just moved to the Orlando area, my husband and I will be meeting her and her family for dinner one evening after their MK day. We are looking for a great tasting and affordable sit down restaurant at one of the MK resorts. It’s been awhile since I’ve eaten on property... Suggestions? Dinner includes a toddler and an infant with four adults—so family friendly will be important.

As others have suggested The Wave is a good choice. You may even want to think about venturing to an MK resort via boat and trying either Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge or Trails End at Ft. Wilderness. Both have good food and it will give you time to check out these amazing resorts.

We really like both Kona Cafe and Grand Floridian Cafe.

There’s not much at Disney that isn’t family-friendly (but traveling with a nearly 2 year old I get where Yachtsman isn’t a top pick for somewhere to take him for dinner).

I would recommend Trail's End at Ft. W, but if you drive there, you will have to park and then take an internal bus to the Settlement area. The food is good and reasonably priced and there is a playground plus the stables to see the WDW horses. If the children are small enough, they can take a pony ride. You could even do a wagon ride at the resort. Whispering Canyon at WL is also fun and, if you wanted to, you could take a boat to the Fort from there for the playground and stables.

Alternatively, Kona Cafe is nice and you could see the fireworks from the Poly beach.

Grand Floridian cafe. The food is good and it’s a beautiful (but family friendly) restaurant.

Kona Cafe, Capt Cook's, The Wave, Citero, Narccoosees.
Sorry for any misspelt restaurant names.

I've rarely eaten at GF but hear good of many of it's eateries.

We think both The Wave and Trail’s End are of good value. We really like the food, too. Personally, I think Trail’s End is a hidden gem.

Or try the Grand Floridian Cafe. I think that the cost is reasonable there as well and so darn pretty.
Great suggestion from Nancy! Generally speaking it's easy to get an ADR here. We needed a dinner spot a couple of trips ago and got on MDE and found a time about 30 minutes later. The food is good, it's a pleasant atmosphere with no gimmicks or novelties. Sometimes it's nice to find a relaxing spot to eat at the end of a long Disney day. I guess we've dined there quite a bit over the years, our server told us she recognized us.

For cheap and family-friendly, you can't go wrong with Kona Cafe. I like the GF Cafe, but Kona is a little cheaper and I prefer the ambiance of the Poly GCH to the GF lobby.

We have Kona booked on our arrival night. It has been a long time since we have dined there so I am looking forward to it, and I love to visit the Poly during Christmas, so win win!!!

Thank you everyone for your advice! My instinct was Kona Cafe, but after this discussion, I think Trails End is worth a consideration! We’ve never eaten there but heard good things. I’ll pass all this along to my sister and I feel like we can make a much more informed decision with all this info!! First time in the forums, so thank you for making it awesome!
