why is that against the rules? Just because you aren't a paying guest of the CR? Seems rather silly to me, as long as you are at least an on site guest I don't think it should matter.
If not staying directly at the particular WDW owned resort, one is only allowed 3 hours to park for dining, checking out the resort, etc. Silly or not, one cannot park at a WDW resort long term (like for the rest of the day and then go to a theme park). No exceptions. Your car is subject to being towed after the 3 hour time limit.
