We usually go to WDW for Spring Break so are used to the big crowds, so we semi know what we're getting ourselves into. Question is...if 1 of us gets overwhelmed by the crowds and wants to go back to the resort from 1:00ish-6:00ish, what is the likelihood that person won't be able to get back into MK after their break? If the park closes to capacity, even resort guests can't get back in, right? Is there any place in the park that won't be wall to wall people, where someone could sit and read and relax for a few hours at MK? Thanks!

Resort guests are admitted up until the last phase. Most of the capacity closures (with the exception of New Year's Eve) happen mid-morning to afternoon. So the odds are good that if a person wasn't going back in the park until 6pm, they would get in.

However, there is always a small chance that they won't. So as to where a person might rest for a while in the park, my first choice is Tom Sawyer Island. There are some tables and chairs that face the riverboat landing that are very pleasant for resting and just watching all the crowds. I also like the tables, chairs and benches in Tomorrowland that overlook the raceway (so long as there's a breeze to get rid of the diesel fumes, lol!).

If it were me, I would probably find a place to rest in the park because I wouldn't want to take the risk, even if the risk is small. But that is something you would have to decide for yourself.

We weren't planning to go to the parks on Christmas day but we decided to stop in at MK on our way back from 1900 PF breakfast. It was just about noon and wall to wall waiting for the parade to start. We managed to walk back to the TTA with no problems, and with very little wait got on and rode that. It was a nice break from the crowds. It was super hot that year and we were stuffed from breakfast so we decided not to stay. We went back to the resort and came back again after dinner at the WL. NO CROWDS at all, no problem getting back in. Rode many rides multiple times with very little wait, and were the only ones on our bus back to POR when the fireworks ended. After all the reports we were very pleasantly surprised.
