Magic Key Program

I wonder if they’re going to allow upgrades. Currently you can’t upgrade to a higher ticket. Or so I’ve read here.

You can't upgrade partially used tickets at this time. You can upgrade wholly unused tickets and apply their value towards another, higher priced ticket. In addition, the special CA Resident Offer tickets specifically state they "cannot be upgraded."

Oh ok. I misunderstood. It’s good they’re bringing back staff for this though.

I don't know why I don't get any of the disney legacy emails, but I don't.

I think a lot of the ideas that we see floating on this board will show up in one way or another on the new system. I think free fastpasses are going to be a thing of the past. I hope they move back to a maxpass system, which I loved, but it may be a pay to ride system like at Disneyland Paris (I hope not).

Either way, I am prepared to be exceptionally disappointed at 1 pm.

The problem is there are now plenty of tools, such as afterpay, klarna, quadpay, affirm, etc. where people can create their own payment plans for just about any purchase, including buying theme park APs. It might not be as simple as doing it all through Disney, but would have its own set of advantages, such as if you miss a payment, your pass wouldn't be suspended until you paid it. This could creat even more craziness.

True but I was even more referring to the elimination of the lower prices passes. When those were blocked out the days were much better.

Just want to emphasis this. My CM friends tell me they've received more requests for VIP Tours than ever without fast passes available. Maybe not necessarily more people actually buying it (though I have seen a lot more recently than ever) but THAT'S the draw Disney wants.
VIP Tours are selling out so fast currently. They have gone from 60 tours a day on weekends, to over 100 per weekend day. I have one guide friend I was chatting with Sat was telling me how he has tours every day of the week for 8-10 hours a day (then add 2 hours as they have to show and hour before and spend an hour after doing the report) and how Wed is his one day off, and he planned to just sleep the entire day.
I was merely stating that there is a notion on these boards and the DIS youtube channel that all AP holders drop a ton of money at the parks.
I will disagree. I find there is a mixture, just as there is a mixture in the day guests. Who here hasn't had the questions from people vacationing on how can I save money, the people who bring coolers so they don't eat out, they buy their souvenirs at Walmart ahead of time, etc... Both groups do it, and both groups spend money.

Much more likely an out of area guest to spend more money at the park than someone just popping in for a few hours who ate before they left the house.

Not to mention 4 day park hopper ticket costs about the same as a socal AP. And that out of area guest doesn't get any AP discounts on food or merchandise.

For a subset of park visitors, spending $100 is like the average person's $20 expense. For a smaller subset, that figure is like $1000. It's Disney's priority #1 (ya know, fiduciary duty to shareholders and all) to extract as much money as possible without sullying the image of the Magic Kingdom into some dystopian Monaco.

So I'm very much looking forward to 1pm to figure out how they're going to do it!

Disney has something every one. As long as you're are upper middle class or above. ha

There will be a low cost option that severely limits the amount of trips a low cost pass can take, while still providing an option. Something like 1 reservation at a time and can only be booked 7 days out.

I don’t think pricing changes too much, they are just going to add friction points to reduce the utility of the passes.

I also think they keep a monthly option. Disney’s ideal scenario is that they keep the same amount and mix of pass holders while also limiting their availability to the parks.

Interesting, we would definitely be interested in the Imagine or Enchant Key. I assume with the Imagine key (or any key) could extend your trip to 3+ days as long as there is park availability on that 3rd day to make a day of reservation.

So, if this is accurate - is it good? I really know nothing about APs and all since I bounce between WDW and DL and not as often as I'd like to. I'm just curius what my Disneyland People think.

If this is accurate, it’s a lot closer to the previous system than I expected, although a lot depends on the blackout days…
