Magic in the Kingdom 2012! BIG 2/16/2014 FINAL UPDATE!

Reading this update was a much needed relaxing reprieve from the AWFUL photo pass plus website! After trying to add simple borders to two photos took 45 minutes I gave up and checked my DIS subs! So glad I did, this was an awesome update and tons of fun to see. Thank you for your great timing! Love the Minnie inspired balls with candy cane legs - so cute!

No idea how I will get my PP+ picture CD ready in time with how slow that site is... Warning too all who buy it, plan lots of time to add the borders before it expires!

Anyway, loved the photos as usual :)

No, I did start the report last weekend on the "other" scrap site (posted last Sunday). Don't know if anyone saw it, but it was all the pre-tour activity which was pretty significant. Then the photos came in and I had to deal with that. I noticed there were some missing so I wanted to go through all of them and deal with the missing ones. I'm afraid to go back to the photo site to see if anything new was added. I hope you have a wonderful trip to DL. Can't wait to hear about it!

Hey Karen, I'm so glad you said that. You posted that when I was still in my last-minute Halloween zone and completely missed it! But I found it and will read through it soon!

Fingers crossed that you find your missing photos. How frustrating that would be!

And thanks for the kind wishes for our DLR trip. I'm really getting so excited. It's been forever, and I'm so excited to see some new Disney holiday decorations since we've never done that coast for the holidays!

Wow you have been busy updating! I have gotten so far behind on so many of the TR's I have been following so I'm kind of glad I wasn't too far behind on yours.

I love Imagination, but the Original one was definitely better. I really miss the original "Image Works" too, there was so many more neat things to do than there are now.

Sorry to dump so much all at once. But if I don't do that, I'll never get done at this point!

I've heard the original Imagination was much better. I'm sorry I never experienced it. When did it change?

Hi mom2rtk!!!! :wave2: I'm finally posting after being a complete lurker on here and your other threads! (Boy, doesn't that sound creepy!) :rotfl:

Love your pictures!!! It makes me want to go to WDW so badly!

I just wanted to chime in on your WOC dilemma. I would highly suggest going. This holiday WOC is going to be pretty awesome because they are going to include a specially written song by a great modern choral composer (Eric Whitacre) that is sung by a 500 person volunteer virtual choir. Disney Parks Blog posted an article a couple months back inviting anyone to try out to be part of the choir and if chosen, your video (and audio) will be meshed with approximately 500 other individuals and will be projected onto the water screens during WOC. Here is the link. World of Color Honor Choir
We haven't found out if we have made it into the show yet (supposed to know by Nov. 15) but even if I haven't made it, I will definitely be going because this apparently the first time Disney has done a collaboration like this and it should be pretty cool.

Hey Rowan! And :welcome:

I'm so glad you came out of lurkdom!

My dilemma is definitely NOT whether to see it or not. My dilemma is finding the best way to get the best view so I can photograph it. We're definitely going to see it. We were last at DLR the day before WOC premiered in June 2010. I purposely backed our trip up so we wouldn't have to deal with opening weekend crowds. But it's been a long time, and I definitely need to see it. I'm even more excited that it's a holiday version. I just hope that doesn't bring out too many locals.
Wow! I fell behind and then you caught up in a HURRY!!!! Loved your updates! More comments from later! :wave2:

Thanks Christen! Lots more to come! :cool1:

Glad to see you back! Enjoyed all the new updates :cool1:

Thanks! Definitely time for catch-up! :)

Well, I saw about half a dozen threads on Photopass and figured things were a mess. And that site was so bad before. I feel for anyone dealing with an even worse version! :scared1: Hang in there. Hopefully they'll get things moving soon.

Here's the plan:
My wife's work friend is coming with us. This will be her first time to Disneyland. We're telling the kids that we are driving her to the airport while we are taking them to school right after. My oldest daughter is the only one who knows what is going on. So we are pre-packing the car the night before. As we are driving up there my wife is going to make the comment that we should just head off to California and Disneyland with her. So at that moment we break the news and hopefully they freak out in a good way.:rotfl2:

From there we park in long term parking and head towards the West Coast. Christmas in Disneyland!!!!

We had to break the news to my oldest daughter a few months back to make sure she didn't miss to much at College. Luckily she has most classes on Tues/Thur but does have work study on other days so we had to get that ok'd. It is going to be a non stop four days.

Wednesday December 12, 2012

It drives me crazy that I can never sleep in at Disney. But I also love that I can never sleep in at Disney. It gives me a little chance to go exploring our resort before the day starts.

I had already taken some pictures around the resort but really wanted to do a more thorough job. My favorite time to do this is just before sunrise with the sky just coming to light. So when I woke up the morning of the 12th I knew I had a little time before Drew and Katie would be up so I grabbed my camera and headed out. I've already posted a lot of AoA photos, so I won't add any more here. Let's just say I photographed it to death! But it was pretty awesome wandering the grounds as the sun rose.

Our reservation at Chef Mickey was at 8:40. I wanted to leave the resort no later than 8. I can't remember for the life of me if we took a taxi or the bus but we made it in time.

I enjoyed Chef Mickey's but will probably skip it next time. We've done it on every trip that I can remember and it's just getting too same old/same old. The characters were nice but didn't take much time interacting and we were done within an hour.

We had the photopass plus card with us and Kim needed it to get their photos at 'Ohana. So we didn't delay and headed for the monorail to meet them and give them the card. It took her a while to get their photos. It seems us getting there after the meal with the card caused all sorts of havoc with the photopass people there.

From the Polynesian, we took the boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom. It was a lovely way to arrive at the Magic Kingdom that I'd like to try again one day. It's probably not worth the price of staying at the Polynesian though. At least not without some amazing discount.

IMG_7029 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

This was the day Drew with heading home. He had plenty of time before his ME departure, but we had several things to accomplish at the Magic Kingdom before our Pirates League appointment. It was mostly character hunting so he opted to just head back to the resort. So we said our goodbyes at the gate of the Magic Kingdom around 10:30 and went in.

IMG_7046 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

IMG_7048 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

Our first priority for the day was meeting Merida. I had no idea how long for line would be but we needed to be at the Pirates league by 12:20. once the girls had their makeup on it would be too late for the Merida pictures. At least too late for GOOD Merida pictures. As it turns out, we were very lucky. The park was not at all busy that day and Merida's line was far shorter than I expected. We barely had time to throw the girls costumes on before we were led into Fairytale Garden.

What followed was 1 of my favorite character meats of the entire trip. Katie was in the Green Merida gown and McKenna wore the blue. They practiced archery with the attendants and we snapped pictures throughout the line. Merida herself was very interactive and played with the girls a lot. When we got to the front of the line and were next, Merida actually left the area insisting that she wasn't needed any more. After meeting Merida, we were still not done. I wanted the girls to swap gowns and get back in line. I mentioned to the character attendant what we were doing and she was very sweet and insisted we come straight back to that internal Fairytale Garden line when we were done instead of starting at the very back again. This time Merida let the girls pose with her bow. I loved that they asked if the blue gown was tight enough. Apparently if it didn't rip when she held up the bow, it needed to be tighter!

ABD got back to me and said there are no more photos, so the missing ones are gone forever. Apparently, the guides had to delete a lot that were sub-par. I could go on and on on my opinion of that but it's not appropriate here. There were some that were OK, that I saw, though that were also deleted.

I think the winter WOC show sounds really exciting since it's not the usual exerts from the Disney musicals. Can't wait to hear about it!

Yes, wish they could get things like this in better shape before expecting the public to deal! LOL tonight I see the site at least has a "we will fix it" page showing up with the Fix-it-Felix character from wreck it Ralph. Glad they realize the issues they have at least!

Cannot wait to learn about DLR from yor next TR... Whenever it is. Sadly we cannot tack DLR onto a San Diego work trip for DH. But it will be a nice Mommy Daddy get away.

How old is Katie now? I was looking an old TR of yours with a couple pics from older BATB meets backstage and loved seeing the changes and progression of her life. Time flies though. Of course YOU have not aged a day :) love that!

Wednesday December 12th, 2012 Continued:

It was a great character meeting, and we were done by 11:30, right at an hour after entering the park. We still weren't done with the Merida costumes yet though. From the moment I made the gowns, Katie had a vision of going down Splash Mountain in the them with her friend. I didn't care if they got wet or stained once our pictures were done. So we headed across the park to Frontierland. I thought they looked adorable in their costumes on the ride.

IMG_7225 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We changed the girls into their pirate costumes and made it to the Pirates league just in time for our 12:20 appointment.

IMG_7251 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We had a little bit of a wait but pretty soon Katie was called back for her makeover. Her attendant Victoria from Peru was really quite wonderful. We were lucky to get her. She talked with Katie through the entire process. She was very engaging and had a great sense of humor. I especially loved the Pirate oath she ministered at the end. "Repeat after me....."

McKenna was on the opposite side of the room so I didn't see how things went for her. But Kim was obviously very disappointed in the process. She said their attendant was not very interactive at all.

After photos in the secret pirate room we headed out. Of course our first stop had to be a ride on Pirates of the Caribbean.

Kim had really look forward to eating at Tony's. Her trip book featured a lady and the Tramp on the cover and Tony's was really the only place Lady and the Tramp are represented in the parks. Tony's gets an awful lot of bad publicity on the Disboards. Ok, people hate it. But they also hate a lot of other things that I like. Besides, I wanted to try new things on this trip and had never eaten at Tony's. I had the Chicken Parmesan and actually enjoyed it. But then I'm not a food snob. If somebody else makes it and bring it to me, I'm usually pretty happy. Mostly it was just great to sit down in a restaurant at Disney and share a meal with our friends planning for the fun days ahead.

IMG_7465 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

IMG_7477 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

After lunch we headed back to Adventureland to meet Jasmine and Aladdin.

They came out around 3:55. Katie wanted to ride Splash Mountain one more time with McKenna so I took them over and let them get in line while I waited on the bridge to take their photo.

The girls are in the front row wearing rain ponchos:

IMG_7512 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We had hoped to watch the Jack Sparrow pirate tutorial that afternoon but ended up missing it. I actually thought they might cancel it because of the rain that afternoon, but the show went on. Just without us.

Kim wanted to meet Tiana on this trip, so I suggested we try meeting her that afternoon. After 3 is the only time Naveen appears with her. So I offered to go ahead of the group and wait in line. I knew she was still pretty popular but was shocked at how long the line already was . They weren't out yet, but I was about 10 groups back. I wouldn't be surprised if the line cut off before they ever came out. We finished around 5:30 and headed for the hub.

IMG_7532 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

IMG_7535 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We had a lot of Magic Kingdom days scheduled for this trip. But this is really the only day we could see the Electrical Parade and Wishes. I knew the crowds were low that day but still expected Main Street to be packed that night. And I was right.

IMG_7580 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We stood in the hub watching the castle stage show, weighing our options about where to set up camp for the evening. MSEP was at 7 so I knew people would start finding their spots soon. But I have never seen anything like this. The very moment the stage show finished it was like a big game of musical chairs for curb space. I stepped over near the popcorn cart and set my things down on the curb.

Before I knew it people were taking spots around me and I didn't even have enough items with me to save our 5 spots. I scrambled and hurried our group over so they could help save the space. In no time every single inch of curb space was occupied and we spent the next hour and 15 minutes fighting to keep those spots. Definitely not pleasant, and not very magical. And as much as I enjoy the night entertainment at Disney maybe not worth it. Just because of the crowds.

I fought our way down to the Main Street Bakery to get food to bring back to everyone. I sat down for a few minutes to eat mine but kept having to shoo people away from my tripod. Kim said someone tried to park a stroller under it while I was gone. It really was just exhausting to try and hold the space while people squeezed in tighter and tighter around us. The parade was lovely as always but I've seen it enough and hope they bring back SpectroMagic.

Love love love seeing the Merida gowns on the girls! Amazing! Beautiful!

And the pirate dresses are adorable too - Katie looks pretty mature in her pirate makeup. I keep thinking how much fun my DD would have doing this with a friend in the near future. So special and way to make all those Mom sacrifices to wait in lines and get spaces saved and get food... Spend hours on gorgeous gowns... :not worthy:

Wednesday December 12th, 2012 Continued:

I was really looking forward to the new castle projection show. I've seen a lot of things multiple times at Disney and was looking forward to a new version of something. As it turns out I wish they had left this one alone. There seems to be a lot more movie clips involved instead of castle transformations. It's hard to put my finger on it but it just didn't wow me like last year's show.

I was really looking forward to Wishes. There isn't much I like more than sitting in front of the castle photographing the fireworks. And after fighting off the crowd around my tripod for so long, I was looking forward to finally using it. So imagine my disappointment when I went to put my camera on the tripod and realized ..... I didn't have the bracket. I dug and dug in my backpack and just couldn't find it. Then it dawned on me that in an effort to lighten up my backpack I had taken a few things out. The brackets were in the wallet of filters I had taken out that morning. I guess I won't make that mistake again. Sigh........

As I was digging some more hoping to find the spare bracket, Katie tapped me on the shoulder to get my attention. She pointed out that the pictures wouldn't be that great anyway and she was right. There was a haze in the sky probably left from the afternoon showers and the smoke was not clearing away. Even if I had what I needed the pictures would not have been very good . I tried some handheld shots but the smoke did a number on those as well.

IMG_8263 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We exited the park around 8:40. When we stopped at the locker to pick up our things, the girls found this uniquely Florida sight up by a fire alarm:

IMG_8300 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

We took the ferry back to the ticket and transportation center since Kim was going to drive us back to the resort. I wasn't a big fan of the ferry since I felt squeezed in like sardines. Of course, leaving right after Wishes sure didn't help.

We stopped at Walmart on our way back to get nail polish remover. I had done a good job of packing, but never considered that the girls would get black nail polish at the Pirates League. Kim stopped by our room with McKenna to take her polish off and then we called it an early night.

Janet-
I know I have said it before, but your pictures are fabulous! And we were in the same parks a lot. I keep looking for us in the backgrounds. ;)

That Wednesday was my first time to see the regular Wishes....and that darn smoke was in the way.

I am also very concerned about the holiday WOC drawing much larger crowds. Hopefully by the time we get there, all the locals will have already seen it! We are pulling a FP, lining up 90 minutes early, and hoping for a front row. :thumbsup2 That is, unless crazy crowd reports come back next week when it starts. Then I may rethink my plan.

On no Karen! That totally stinks that some of the photos are just gone.
As a fellow scrapbooker, you know I share your pain on that.

Hopefully I'll have a few gigabites of photos from WOC to share when I get back. :)

Knowing how bad some of those Disney sites are on a good day, I'm sorry you're dealing with them even worse than usual!

Yes, wish they could get things like this in better shape before expecting the public to deal! LOL tonight I see the site at least has a "we will fix it" page showing up with the Fix-it-Felix character from wreck it Ralph. Glad they realize the issues they have at least!

LOL, with Timmy leaving for school this year, I feel like I've aged a lot this year. We'll see if you say the same thing after the next TR! :lmao: But thank you. :) Katie just turned 13. She's changed a lot already from the photos I'm posting now. But the biggest change came when she got her contacts right before this trip.

I'm happy to hear at least Disney is admitting they have a problem on the photopass site. Maybe they should do the same thing with DME???? :rotfl2:

Love love love seeing the Merida gowns on the girls! Amazing! Beautiful!

Sounds like an AWESOME plan! I really can't wait to hear how the surprise goes. I'm sure it will be everything you have imagined. I really wish I could surprise Katie sometime, but let's face it. I have a big mouth. I could never keep a secret that big!

Can you believe the first semester of college is so close to the end? Timmy was home for the weekend again. I drove him back to Rolla this morning. It seemed a lot easier this time knowing how close Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks are.

Yay, an update! Inching closer to when we found you guys!! :thumbsup2

Are you and Katie going to be there again this December?

Thank you Wendy! :goodvibes I'd love it if you showed up in some of my shots! :cool1: I found myself in the background on someone else's trip report once. Not sure why I was so amused by that, but I definitely was! :rotfl:

I really was disappointed in Wishes that night. And it was amazing to me where all those people came from when the park seemed so empty that day.

I can't believe holiday WOC gets underway next week. And here I am still wavering on what to do about dinner/no dinner yellow fp/blue fp. But then I need something to figit about before a Disney trip or it just wouldn't seem right!

Yay, an update! Inching closer to when we found you guys!! :thumbsup2

Are you and Katie going to be there again this December?

Yeah!:cool1: All I can say is that you have the patience of a saint! And everyone else who's still around out there!

Katie and I are going to DLR in another month. Do you and our favorite little Flynn fan have a trip planned?

Yes, we do! I was actually pricing out airfare and was minutes away from pulling the trigger on a flight to CA and then I saw the video of talking Mickey, and immediately booked at WDW instead. I wish we were on the same coast, one day I do want to get dd to DLR!

Too bad we won't get to run into you at DLR! But talking Mickey sounds really cool too. I can't wait to meet him for ourselves one day. I hope you get your plans worked out quickly!

I love the pictures of the girls in both dresses with Merida!! That is the same Merida I met in February. She was really fun. I had a cell phone case with her on it and my mom was taking a picture on it so we talked about that for a little bit. She also asked if she was supposed to curtsy to me. Then we decided Cinderella would be the best person to get Princess lessons from. :)

where is the pick your jaw up off the floor emoticon... Is it just me or does Katie look like the most beautiful young lady with her pirate make-up on. Janet you better watch out for boys

Hey stranger! How's married life? :goodvibes

Thanks for the compliment on Katie. I agree that we are in for so much trouble with that girl! :lmao: Maybe we shouldn't let her date until Timmy is home from school and we can assign her 2 brothers as chaperones on all her dates! :rotfl:
