Based on other cruise blogs, the cruise industry is no different than land based businesses that were impacted by the pandemic and had to close down. Many workers just vaporized. They either found other work, or in the cruise industry, many are from nations where they is a lot less confidence that it is safe to return to work. Certainly none of the staff from China are back with their zero tolerance policy on covid.Regarding the new CMs, do be aware that they have another ship coming on board. They don't want it to have all new CMs, and they don't want to leave the older ships with all new CMs - so right now there are a lot who will be going to the Wish - and some who will be remaining on the older ships - who are on their vacations while new CMs for all ships get trained.
It happens whenever new ships come on board for any line - they have to train up people so that they can staff all their ships with a mix of new and old.
HAL has been hit hard, and during the pandemic they sold off 4 of their ships, so they have that pool of workers to draw from too.
