Day 7, Day at sea: After yet another morning of room service coffee, juice and pastries, we went for a some more substantial breakfast at Topsiders, then out to the pool all morning. This ended up being a very good idea, because we got our only afternoon of rain on the cruise. After lunch on deck from Goofys , the sky got very overcast so we went to our room and watched a movie, Fun With Dick and Jane. We opened one of our bottles of wine and had the cheese platter, while DS watched some of our movie and some of his movies on his DVD player. DS and DH decided to nap, while I saw Disney Dreams that afternoon. This performance is certainly well done, with great music and production values. Our plan had been to take DS up to Goofys for dinner, but they had it closed because of the weather. So, we had to switch and order room service pizza. Since it was our night at Palos, we wanted to send DS to tke kids club having already eaten.
While we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Palo, we both thought brunch was better. Service was quite slow .we didnt get our entrees until wed already been there an hour and a half. DH had the rack of lamb, and I had steak and lobster. The food was artfully prepared, but after waiting for it for so long, I wasnt really all that hungry. It also made us late to the evening show with Rich Purpura, but we ended up getting paged anyway by the kids club, so we headed back to the cabin.
Day 8, Castaway Cay: We had missed this island on our first cruise because of Hurricane Jeanne. I had been looking forward to it for years. It is certainly a lovely island, with many Disney touches in the buildings. DS was looking forward to going, and stripped off his shoes and shirt immediately and headed for the water once we got to the beach. Unfortunately, the second his feet hit the water, he immediately declared that he was done with the beach and wanted to back on board and swim. So for the next three hours, DH tried to keep DS happy while I tried to enjoy my cabana massage, knowing they were squabbling the whole time.
To say I was disappointed in how this day turned out was an understatement, but its certainly no fault of Disneys .just the family dynamic. My cabana massage was good, but I wouldnt do it again. It just wasnt worth the cost.
We headed back to the boat by about 2 p.m., and spend the rest of the day enjoying the Mickey Pool. DS also discovered the slide this day, and went up and down it about 30 times. This was much more relaxing than arguing with a ornery 4 year old, we decided.
I put DS back in the kids club after dinner so I could pack be warned, the pager goes off constantly the last night because they REALLY want you to return it .
Added: Debarkation day: Our least favorite, of course, but it really was one of the best exits Id had in about 10 cruises. We had early breakfast, so we just left our stuff in our room, and returned to our room after breakfast. We were heading to BCV, so we saw no reason to go stand in a big line that was wrapping around Lumieres at 7:30 a.m. We strolled off the boat at 8:30 a.m. with no line.
We had to wait about 20 minutes for our Avis shuttle, but we got our car quickly at the Avis center. We had an easy ride back to WDW, and we could see where the fires had been around the Beachway. We got great welcome homes at BCV, but our room wasnt ready, so we just grabbed our swimsuits and headed for the quiet pool. We had a studio room with an Epcot fireworks view. It was in good shape, save for some nicks on the coffee table and a patio ceiling that could have used some cleaning attention. We spent the next two days at the parks and the pools, which was such a nice way to end the vacation. Much better than getting off the boat and heading home. We also got really great airfares by leaving on Monday instead of Saturday. We opted to drive a car to the airport, and we took the 417 to the airport, avoiding the rush hour Monday morning madness on I-4. It was a snap .we were to the airport in an easy 30 minutes.
