Magic Drydock in October...anyone heard this?

I'm just wondering if anyone has heard about changes on the Magic this fall? My last cruise was January 29th on the Magic. While going through the "Sail Away" buffet line a cast member questioned my friend's hat. My friend was wearing an ESPN DCL hat from the good 'ol days of the ESPN skybox. The cast member asked about the hat and then mentioned changes on the Magic coming in October. He said that there would be more changes & it was all due to customer feedback (maybe something to do with ESPN?) He said everything was, of course, top secret but to expect major changes. I wonder if people are complaining about the Stack and are not happy with Diversions? It always seems dead in Diversions...not sure why.

Now, I'm not one to believe everything I hear but this COULD be true. I am curious if any of you have heard similar talk? I am one of those that is still hoping that July 16th will bring an announcement about a future ship. If any of THOSE rumors are true, could these dry dock "changes" all be related to the Magic spending more time on the west coast in the future? I guess time will tell.

Anyone?.....let's hear those opinions! It's not like I want to WORK today! :earboy2:

First I’ve heard of it. But I just check availability at the DCL web site and no cruises on the Magic show for the first two weeks in October, so maybe it’s true.

I have to admit I love the changes they made during the last dry dock. I did like the ESPN SkyBox, but I like Diversions much more and The Stack seems a better use for that location.

I can't image any changes being as major as the last time, but I’m all for trying new things.

The Magic will be in dry dock the first 2 weeks of October 2006. I'm not sure about 2005. I know about 2006 because that was the original date that we were looking for our cruise and I was told about the dry dock. Hope this helps.

Actually, the Magic will be in dry dock the first 2 weeks of this October (2005). Although, it could be in dry dock October 2006 too. ? :confused3

The Magic is scheduled for Dry Dock in October 2005. The Wonder is scheduled for October 2006.

The Magic has already had the "ESPN Skybox" changed over to "The Stack" used by the Youth Activities for teenages. The old "Common Grounds" has been coverted to "Cove Cafe," an adult venue for coffee, internet and reading.

The space that was used by Dueling Pianos/Improv Comedy has been updated to Diversions -- a mixture of things including a Sports Bar theme.

The Wonder has had a similar makeover.

Hope this helps.

I'd be willing to bet you a Mickey Bar that the ESPN club is NOT coming back.
They wouldn't have just ripped it out on the Wonder if it wasn't a success on the Magic.

According to www.allseastravel.com The Magic will be in dry doc Oct. 1 - 14, 2005. I do not see any scheduled for the Wonder, but it should be going in 2006. If they follow the 2 year cycle it has been on..

We are on the first cruise out of drydock - we cannot wait!! :cool1: So if there are any changes, we will be the first to see them. Once we get back, Ill be sure to post about them.

October 15, 2005 - is it time to cruise yet??????

:fish: :fish:

I hope they bring the dueling pianos back. I loved those guys and it always seemed packed at night. I don't know why they got rid of 'em.

On both of our cruises, the deuling piano bar was virtually deserted at night. Don't understand why, because it was a lot of fun. Granted, it's less fun when there are only (literally) 8 people in the audience, but we still very much enjoyed it.

So, just to confirm, the dueling piano bar is officially gone from the Wonder?

My mistake.....the WONDER is in dry dock the beginning of Oct. 2006. NOT the MAGIC!! Sorry about that. I just checked my paperwork. Didn't mean to confuse everyone. Please accept my apologies.

Our Head Server on our Jan 15th cruise told us that they, DCL, at that time, were still sorting through all the suggestions from crewmembers and customer feedback. That that is in fact a large part of how they decide what changes to make during dry dock. But as of then they hadn't been given a final word on anything. The CMs are as excited to see what's going to happen as we are! :Pinkbounc

From what I understand, the ships are required to go into drydock every two years for regulatory inspections of the hull and propulsion systems. Of course this makes it convenient to do any facility changes that the cruise line wishes to make. Not sure what changes are to be done, but you shouldn't interpret the drydock to mean there will be changes (but I wouldn't be surprised if there are).

Just wanted to second Skyhawk..on the fact that the ship have to be dry docked every two year. We talked with a CM this past fall on our cruise...not about what they would be doing...just about the fact that every two years the ship are dry docked...and big maintance projects are done along with any changes, updates or fine tuning the ship may need.

Were booked on the first Western after this years dry dock (the actual second week the ship will be back in service after dry dock).

We will also be sailing on the first Western cruise after drydock. I cannot wait to see what they have in store as far as changes go.

We were on the April 9th Western and attended one of the session in what I think was called the "Navigator's Series" where they showed a nice video of the Magic's previous trip to dry dock. It was amazing to see the amount of stuff they did in addition to the obvious "Stack", "Diversions" and "Cove Cafe" changes. Afterwards there was a Q&A and a few cruisers pushed for info on what changes were planned for the upcoming October drydock. The only clue that was given was to "think about decks 9 and 10", with the implication being that would be an area of focus.

Something interesting to ponder...

:cool1: It's obvious that no one knows for sure...so as good fellow DIS'ers and to uphold the vow you took when you first registered....can those of you who experience any "changes" or "upgrades" please thereafter post away!? ;)
We are right after you on the Nov. 12th Eastern Magic and will be waiting :listen: with cauliflower ears to hear what you have to report! :rolleyes1

Thanks, DIS NURSE from Oregon :flower:

All this talk of dry dock has aroused my curiosity. Where do they put the ships for dry dock and does anybody have pictures or know  whether there is a web cam?

There has been rumors that when a new ship comes into service (not that building has even started yet) that the Magic would move to the west coast. If the focus is going to be on decks 9 & 10 I wonder if the work will be to make the Magic ready for Alaskan cruising. Things like retractable roofs over the pools etc.
