Magic: December 8, 2012!!

We are booking this cruise as a surprise birthday gift for our twins (turning 10 on Dec. 9th). We live an hour and a half from Galveston and are telling them we are going to Galveston for their birthday for the day. They will find out as we board the ship. :rotfl2:

This will be our second Disney cruise. We have been to WDW 9 times and thought we'd change it up this year. ;)

We love doing the FE so let us know!

Okay, we just paid the balance on our cruise. We are set: cruise-check, hotel-check, airfare-check, shuttle-semi check.... We still need to figure out the return trip to the airport on Sunday. Grand Cayman excursion-check, Costa Maya excursion-check, Cozumel excursion-pending. :/
Stateroom status is still gty, even after payoff. All I need now are the navigators from the 9/22 inaugural sailing and I'll be good.

Just found out my uncle is taking this same cruise in October! I'm hoping he will bring me all kinds of great info back.

My one traveling w/o kids? My husband and I are cruising for the first time. Not sure what to expect......

Hi! We just booked our Dec.8th cruise on the Magic and we are so excited! We are traveling with our 5 year old daughter, and two other couples with children 8yrs and 11 years old. This will be our first Disney cruise so any tips/advice from veterans would be much appreciated, as we are clueless! :)

Welcome to the group! I don't think we have any veterans, if we do, they are only lurking. Come join is on the Facebook page, I have a feeling topic might pick up soon now that the rates have drooped. We are planning to do a Fish Extender which is basically a gift exchange if you are interested, I can post a link to info if you want to know more. Meanwhile, use the search feature here on disboards to start looking for any of your questions... I can try to help too, I've only cruised once before with Disney, but i'm a planning fanatic, I over plan - if that's possible.

Welcome ! our first cruise too !

What do you consider a veteran? ;) This is our second Disney cruise...so I don't consider that a veteran. :goodvibes

We have 9-year old twins. They were 7 when we went on our last Disney cruise. We usually go to Disney each year. Sometimes twice a year! :rotfl2:

We haven't cruised out of Galveston, so I am not sure if this cruise has a Pirate Party. If so, you do NOT want to miss it! Make sure to bring your costumes!

We have a great FE a lady made. I will post a picture on the FB page...when I get a chance to join. :lmao:

We brought Disney pillowcases from Joann's online the kiddos could color. We packed them in Ziploc bags with different colored Sharpies. Make sure to put your child's name and your stateroom on the outside in Sharpie! As soon as we arrived on the ship, we went to Customer Service and dropped it off. They deliver it to your room the night before you leave. It had every single character signed ALL over the pillowcases. The kiddos LOVED it!!!!! It was a take-home souvenir they could have forever...and they could color it when they got home too. ;)

You can bring picture mats to Customer Service also. They will have the characters sign them and bring them to your stateroom.

Order a Mickey ice cream bar through room service. It's a great bedtime snack. ::yes::

Order a snack tray the night before you leave the ship. You can pack them with you to take if your kiddos get hungry while you are out.

I have a ton more things I can think of, but not sure if you guys already know all of this. Chat later! pixiedust:

Great tips! Yes, we will have pirate night on this cruise. The first sailing out of Galveston starts this weekend, they will post the navigators to help us plan for the other theme nights (formal night, semi formal night) we should have a character breakfast to, although we didn't on our last 7 day cruise causer it was so port intensive... But we should on this one.
Ooh, yes, pack single dollars for room service tips. We always order a bed time snack, my son is addicted to room service - thank goodness its free (except the soda, liquor and tips) order as much as you want!

Great tips, thanks!!! I already joined the facebook page. The FE exchange sounds cool. Would love the info on the lady that makes them, as I am not very crafty. :)

Hey I am a true newby to Disboards. What is FE? I know what an idiot huh? I want to know the lingo so when we arrive to meet everyone you won't be oh it's her...... First cruise for hubby and me. No kiddos.

Hi! Our family of 4 will be on our first Disney Cruise on Dec. 8th. We have an 11 girl and 8 year old boy and we live in Arizona. We are very excited for this experience. I am looking forward to the fish extenders, but do not know how to go about signing up for that. Can anyone help me out? We look forward to meeting you all! Kimberly

The FE is an abbreviation for Fish Extender. I am on my phone app right now, so I can't post a, link to where it tells you more about it, but here's a shorter version...
The Disney ships have little fish shaped hooks outside every cabin. Someone very creative decided to hang (extend) pocket type holders from them, so hence the name, fish extender.
Each sailing has a sign up list for people interested in a gift exchange. If you've signed up, you make/buy gifts for the other people that signed up and sometime during the cruise, you deliver these gifts and put them on the pockets of thier fish extender.
Most , people make thier own fish extenders, instructions are somewhere on this site. Other people but then from Ebay or Etsy. There is also a thread on this site that shows what people have made our given for examples.
Our group has a sign up doc on Facebook, we are using the roll call doc for now. The cut off date to sign up is Nov. 8th. We haven't established any rules yet except for the cut of date. But come and join us on Facebook, that's where most of the chat happens. :)

So is it just for kids? Would we buy gifts for everyone in the families? Just want to make sure we have this correct.....

Its die who ever signed up, and ur depends in what you want to give, if you give individual gifts to both adults and kids, or if you want to only give the kids, its up to you. Last year, we had a lot of people on our fe list, so I only gave the kids, unless the cabin had no kids. But that's cause our budget was tight for going on a 7 day med cruise, with airfare to and from Barcelona. So its entirely up to you and your budget. This cruise doesn't seem to be selling alot of cabins, so i'm thinking the fe list will be smaller, we are sailing close to home, so our budget will be better this year for the fe gifts to include a gift for everyone.
