Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) **** PART III ****

I picked up my 10 (now 9) pack of little hotel/airplane bottles of Bacardi rum for some rum and diet cokes. Putting it in my carry on as directed and all should be fine from all I've read. :drinking1

My dad was admitted to our larger hospital to the north yesterday in cardio critical care, apparent heart failure. Too much fluid in his lungs and kidney disfunction to heart cath yesterday, has to wait til Monday. Possible bypass if heart isn't too damaged already.
Have no idea what to do. Don't have trip insurance so can't imagine cancelling but also can't imagine leaving for 12 days in this situation. Not traveling on a passport, so if something happens I can't come home til it's time to come home.
Even so, long days at hospital means nothing done at home to get ready to go if we get to.
Strange, bad, upsetting situation all the way around.

I'm so sorry for your fathers illness. I would call Disney and ask what your options are. I will tell you that my daughter came down with appendicitis on the day we were to leave for a week long prepaid uninsured trip to WDW. Disney refunded (in the form of a future credit) everything to me that I had paid to them. They didn't even need the note I had planned to get from the surgeon. The airline didn't refund but did cancel the seats and we rebooked paying the change fee (which was ridiculous) but at least we didn't loose everything. I hope that you won't need to postpone and send positive thoughts into the world for you and your family

Don't give up hope. Crackers are available in the states. Target will probably have them. Also, If you see a TJ Maxx, Marshalls or Cost Plus World Market they will definitely have them. I'm actually bringing some. My husband was born in England and his Mum is from Liverpool.

Good to hear, thank you for the suggestions. Sounds like more options than I thought would be available. :):)

Oh no Melanie, I hate to hear this. Sending lots of prayers and pixie dust your way that things will work out. I know you are going to be busy, but please keep us posted if you can.

We made a prayer for your father and your family in church today and we hope nothing but the best for you.

As many have said, I would call Disney immediately to find out your options. I know that they have been very generous to others in the past who have found themselves in similar situation.

In the meantime, I would step back, take a breath and see what the next few days brings. You will then be in a better position to make a decision. If you have to pack at the last minute then you certainly won't be the first.

Remember this is the Recovery & Rejoice Cruise. Do give up hope just yet.

The last few times i've bought alcohol either on board or in a port they have not taken it.... anyone else have similar experience?

If you buy alcohol in the duty free store on the ship they will keep it until the last night of the cruise and then deliver it to your cabin. If you buy it in a port you can bring it on board and drink it or keep it to take home.

Please add us to the list.

Thanks!

Welcome Aboard! bigAWL maintains our first post with all the information and he is already at WDW on vacation so hopefully he will see your post and add you to the roll call. I will add you to the unofficial one I have.

I saw that your DD found the teen thread. I have a 14yo DD and I will try to get her to sign on to the teen thread later this evening.

Sorry to hear your news. Would you go north to visit or can you stay in touch using the various options for communication as somebody else suggested?

Try to look at all options and wait for what the specialsits say on Monday to get more information to help you with the what is the right decision for you.

Take care of yourself while you figure out what to do.

I have every intention of obtaining a photo of the Martinique shoreline with sandy beaches, blue water, and palm trees, posting that photo on FB upon my return with the caption:

We had a blue Christmas with out you.

You are so evil! I love it!!

Joann - sounds like they are having a great time! Did your parents make it to Orlando?

Stay warm!
Yes, they made it - just a battery problem. Although to Mom it was a $175 problem that eats into her vacation fund. :sad2: Unfortunately, my grandmother did not make it. She just was not well enough after breaking her arm a couple weeks ago to travel and had to cancel. Luckily Frontier Airlines agreed to give her a credit for the full $$ amount of the ticket to use another time. That was great because the ticket was my Christmas present to her and purchased with miles, so nonrefundable. I'm glad she'll be able to use it later when she feels better. Although, we are really very bummed she can't be here with us this week.

I will ask DH to get online today and update the front page to add our new cruisers - :welcome: - and anything else someone wants us to add. I think we need to put the time on the DisMeet and Ornament Exchange along with DVC4Us cabin # for folks to check for location announcement since DCL still hasn't confirmed a location. :confused3

Anything else?

Trying to get everyone to take a nap or at least get some rest before we head out to MVMCP. The front came through with howling winds and cold rain and drizzle. The temp dropped about 15 degrees in 15 minutes! :scared1: But now it appears that the rain bands have passed and it's just chilly outside. We tried to find winter coats, but evidently they have all been sold out! So we got some tights and camis for the girls with another sweater. They should have about five layers - can't add much more or they won't be able to move!:lmao:

Take care! Will try and get DH to post up some photos soon too.

I love this one! This would make my friends around here so jealous! I think I will send them a nice beach postcard from Castaway Cay!

Hello Ron, Laura, and Madison! Welcome! :cool1:

Just picked up 2 small packages of water: 8 pk and 12 pk, one for each of our carry ons. DH does not schlep, so a King Kamahaha large case would not fly. Got my Tide on the go stain pen and a 6 pack of beer to help the packing over the next three days go a little smoother.

:goodvibes

So now that the shuttle launch date has been pushed back, does anyone know if there are any other launches on the 17th? Someone suggersted that they always have things going on.????

Glad to hear your parents made it, but that's too bad about the battery. That's a bummer about your grandmother. I know you guys were really looking forward to spending time with her.

I can't believe DCL hasn't gotten back to us about the DIS meet yet. My shore side contact is a little upset with them cause she has several things she is waiting on and there are no answers coming from the ship. Putting my cabin number on the info page is fine since I will have a magnet posted on my door with the location.

Hope you guys have fun at MVMCP.

Back to packing!
