Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

It sounds fun, but I'm not planning to -- too many other things to get ready for this cruise. Maybe "get pirate costumes" will be on my list for next time. I did get DD a pirate shirt and accessories, so she can represent the family...

I think I read that an alternative is tropical dress. Might do that?

Also.....They provide a pirate bandana at the table that night for each person, so if you wore black and white and added the bandana when you got to dinner, you are GOOD TO GO! :) pirate: And, in good Disney fashion, the shops on the ship have PLENTY of options for pirate outfits and accessories to purchase if you feel so moved once you get there! (Imagine that!) :rotfl:

Me - Wendy 29; DH -Jeff - 48; DD9.
Don't believe DD if she runs around saying I'm anything other than 29.

I'm a Kansas City girl, DH is from Flint, MI.
Our wedding was cancelled by Hurricane Floyd but the ensuing adventure made the local news. Just ask us...

I work for a global manufacturing company and DH is in sales for a specialized trucking company.

For fun, I read and rant about Jayhawk basketball. DH would say his hobbies are golf and boating. I say they are remodeling and home improvements.

DD9 sings, plays piano, skis (water & snow), and loooves to make new friends. Can't wait to spring the surprise of the cruise on her!

DH is 1/2 Serbian-Czech; I'm distantly related to Jesse James. DD declares that her ancestors were Pilgrims, so perhaps she actually belongs to some of the Mayflower descendants on board. ;)

I CANNOT wait to be on this vacation!

Okay, I got tickets for MVMCP for the 12th. :woohoo:

So our first ever experience of Magic Kingdom will be: Cinderella's Castle all lit up, SANTA! :santa:, a Christmas parade, special fireworks, hot chocolate, Christmas cookies and soapy snow! :goodvibes

I forbid it to rain!! :headache: :umbrella:

Truly magical! A wonderful first impression :dance3:

Someone mentioned somewhere (here or on regular boards) THE place to get cigars at one of our ports and I didn't write it down and can't remember for the life of me.
Was it someone here? Do you know where it is?

Wow - I am glad I started the ice breaker. Its fascinating - so many interesting people.

Keep them coming.

Hello,
I'm ReggieB and I am a Disneyholic...
I am 21 (for the 19th year running) DH is 40, and DS is 10

I have lived in US for 14 years, I am originally from Oxfordshire, UK. DH is from Northamptonshire, UK and DS is from Rockville, MD, but you wouldn't know it to listen to him, he sounds like a cross between Bert from Mary Poppins and Eliza Doolittle (before the transformation) Not quite sure where he picked up all the London slang from. Our accents have remained pretty strong, though I am very good at saying tomato the American way!! So if any of you fellow Brits need translation done, I'm available (or vice versa!) We all have duel citizenship, so I get to have two embarrassing passport photos, rather than just one.

The other member of our family that doesn't get to make this trip is Harry. He is a 2 year old Old English Sheepdog. He was born in New York state, so I think he might have an American accent.....though probably not, if DS is anything to go by!!!

Went to college and worked in London (lived there for 6 years) Met DH at college. We spent two years in San Francisco before moving to the Washington D.C. metro area.

None of our family is in US, so with just the 3 of us, it isn't a major trauma to slip off on a cruise at holiday time. This will be our 4 DCL trip, we were on the holiday cruise in 2007 We try to go home every year or two, but we blew them all off this year for a trip to visit my big brother in Singapore. My mother is not impressed we both moved so far away.

Love Disney, my first visit to a Disney park was in 1993 (I think, you can see how vague and forgetful I am) It was the original Disneyland. Have managed to visit all except Hong Kong. My absolute favorite is Tokyo Disney Resort. I'm a big fan of the Japanese pop culture. Though I do love WDW (particularly around Food & Wine time!) I learnt most of my American Pop culture by watching ABC soaps, Oprah and Rosie O'Donnell. I think the commercials/ads were the most informative!!

My DH works in the Financial Industry in I.T. I am lucky to be a SAHM. Though I do seem to spend all my time volunteering in my DH's media center/library.

I'm a pretty shy person, my DH painfully so. However I have in the last 14 years learnt how to speak to complete strangers for no apparent reason. The folk here in US are so very friendly! DH has not however got used to talking to anyone, so I am being a bit subversive about how much I'm involving myself with you lovely Dis folk. It's fine I can ditch him if need be....

I am completely unable to text because, as you may have noticed, I cannot write short sentences, let alone abbreviate. In short, I ramble. I also have terrible grammar, but that's because I put the punctuation marks where I would normally pause. I believe that is the William Shatner way. By the way, I am a big old nerdy tomboy. I love Star Wars, Star Trek and like to spend time on my (note my) Xbox. To complete my "geekyness" I also like comics. TV I am watching right now is House and Boardwalk Empire. Just finished up the Formula 1 season (all Americans are going "huh?") Thank heavens Alonso didn't win, it got to the point where I didn't care who won, as long as it wasn't him. Was able to go to Montreal GP this year, one of my best vacation ever. Loads of star spotting (again, probably debatable if you are from US!!)

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to ramble. As an introductory quiz to American spelling to you Bits, see if you can spot my UK English spelling mistakes, there are two!!!

Finally I am done rambling.....

I have read on the Forum that DCL no longer provides bandanas on Pirate night. I can't confirm this, maybe someone that has been on a recent cruise can confirm/deny this. I still have mine from '08, so I was surprised to read that they no longer give them out at dinner.:confused3

That's a shame. Do the servers still dress up?

I think the getting to know everyone was a great idea!!!! :thumbsup2

Lets see..... I am 28 years old...will turn 29 on the cruise... and DH is 30. I apparently have taken over posting on the boards even though he was the one who initially signed up. :rotfl2: I am from Canada and DH is from Kentucky. We met 7 years ago in Charleston,SC while I was finishing off Nursing School and he was a Fireman in the Air Force at the time. We moved to Panama City, Florida almost 5 yrs ago. Our daughter is 3 yrs old and it was shortly after she was born that I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. I started treatment and along the way two years later our son came along very unexpected at a time when we didn't even think it was possible. He is now 10 mths old and we are happy to report I am cancer free! :cheer2::cheer2: My husband is now a civillian as we were faced with many decisions. I am currently doing my clinical hours to get Mid-Wife Certification and I work for a great OB practice!

We are a pretty easy going bunch. :cool1: This is our first Disney Cruise and hopefully will be the first of many! We have done the parks before but plan on doing the MVMCP this year on the 16th! :dance3: We are mostly a Gluten Free family since the kids and I do have Celiac's Disease. It has its challenges but thankfully Disney was very helpful with the food they offer.

We are DEFINITELY NOT anywhere near packed...I probably should start working on that since we have a ton of FEs to pack too. I heard of families just travelling with carry ons but how the heck they manage to do it beats me:confused3.

Christie,Jarod,Tsyenna & Brady:yay:

I (28) was born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, in the town of Wahiawa, where I met my DH (35) who was Active Duty Army and stationed in his first assignment at Schofield Barracks.

We met, fell in love, and started planning our wedding three months later. With little family support and very little money, our wedding and honeymoon consisted of an oceanside ceremony and a night's stay in a hotel in Waikiki:) However, DH wore his dress blues and I wore a traditional white dress so our pictures are fantastic.

It took several years for our mutual families to reconcile the fact that the Hawaiian granddaughter of a Protestant minister should fall in love with the a Black, Catholic, Army man. Interestingly, total acceptance seemed to concide with the birth of our daughter, Malia (4).;)

I was prepared to travel the world with my Army man when we headed to Boston in the early 00's. However, the Army has stationed us throughout MA for the ten years that we have been in the mainland. Good thing we love the area. I especially cannot get enough of the seasons.

DH is headed to Afghanistan in February so we booked this holiday cruise to spend some much needed family together. This is our 2nd Disney cruise. We were on the May 15th 11 night Mediterranean. SO we are totally breaking the piggy bank of this trip. But oh well, it's only money :)

Truly, I am a shy indiviudal who is either silent or disclosing entirely too much info---as you can see. I thoroughly enjoy meeting other DISers before the cruise because selfishly it limits my social anxiety. SO thank all of you for helping you are all :littleangel: in disguise.

Wow! About us, great idea....

I'm 41 (Lisa) and DH (Markus) is 52. DD's (3) are 23, 16, & 12. Oldest won't be joining us. I'm orginally from Seattle but live just outside if Philadelphia in NJ. DH and I met at work and fell in love and married 3 months later (sh! the kids and my mom don't know!). Work has moved us to NJ where we have lived for the past 14 years so I guess its home now!

I'm on the shy side (until I've had a drink or two :rotfl2:) but kehonuamemano's post made me step up and post.:) I have 2 useless degrees (BA in Liberal Arts and MLS in Library and Information Science) and am a SAHM but looking for work (paid work, not more laundry). Hubby works in a hospital. This is our 3rd disney cruise which we have almost cancelled a zillion times but is now past the cancellation date so now I know for sure we are going. We will dress for formal night, pirate night depends on what fits both me and what fits in the suitcase. I've currently started running regularly (only so much banana bread a girl can bake) - I'm slow (my teenager calls me a penguin) and I've just hit being able to run a mile (this is a BIG deal for me as I haven't run since gym class - 20 some years ago.) I enjoy Facebook, reading, cooking and have entire plastic bins of scrapbook stuff that I will learn to do "someday". We have 2 cats, a tadpole, and 2 dogs - our old lady, Sadie, a 13 yo yellow lab, who joined our family 5 years ago after hurricane Katrina and Molly our other lab who is quite a handful. Anyway - enough about us - thanks for the opportunity to share

I'm Vanessa (34), and my husband Matt (also 34...we're exactly one month apart in age) and I will be celebrating our 13th anniversary on Dec. 27th. We have DS (10), DS (7), and DD (3).
I was born in New York but have lived in Florida for 27 years...just a quick drive to the mouse's house! My husband was born and raised in Lakeland and had his first plane ride on our honeymoon!
I have piles to pack but haven't actually done anything with them. Should probably buy another suitcase or two! :rolleyes1
We are definitely a dress up and match for pictures kind of family! I might as well enjoy it now as I'm sure that my boys are only a year or two away from putting an end to that!
I love to read but have been so busy that I haven't read in awhile. I'm looking forward to loading up my Kindle for the cruise :thumbsup2
My husband and I met while at the University of Florida where I got my BA in English, and he got a BS in Biological Sciences. I went on for my MEd in Elementary Education while he went through medical school. He's now a self-employed pediatrician, and I just had my final defense for my dissertation in Curriculum and Instruction. I graduate with my Ph.D. on Dec. 11th, so we'll really be celebrating on this cruise :cool1:
I'm a SAHM but will be working at the university part-time beginning in January.
I really want to travel more, but for now, we are SO content with DCL and cruising! Our kids love it and so do we :goodvibes
It's so fun learning more about everyone! Can't wait to see you onboard!

Well, it sure didn't take long for the cease and desist note to get to me from Cafe Press. It seems the graphics I posted violate their copyright policy (which is strange since I 'borrowed' the graphics from the web ... :rotfl: ) Anyway, the DOTD shop has been closed. Anyone still wanting to order DOTD t-shirts will have to create their own shirt on an individual basis.

Here are the links to both the Princess and Prince graphics:

Princess DOTD Large Graphic

Princes DOTD Large Graphic

Either of these should be fine for making t-shirts and stuff without further editing .
