What is the purpose of having the Magic Cards (KTTK) showing up in MDE? Are old ones really "active", as are they still active to charge to my credit card once I have checked out?

When I first started dealing with MDE, there was a card listed for a stay we had in March 2013. I know it had to be that stay because it was the last one our son was with us and there was a card listed for him.

We just finished up a split stay, so now I have 2 more cards listed. We still have 2 more stays this year, and probably about 6-8 stays planned for 2014. That is a lot of cards cluttering MDE.

I could see the point if they were re-usable, but I don't see the resorts doing that.

It could be a glitch. Unfortunately, we are going thru this right now. Somehow, in linking all our accounts, MDE created some 'evil twins' of us, and those twins are still showing up as having tickets and/or dining reservations. Disney IT is working on deleting our evil twins. I asked if I could use our evil twins tickets at WDW and they laughed and said no. It has been three days now and they are still there.

I was in the system, and everyone in my family is showing 3 active cards, I assume from our last split stay over the summer. Don't see any sense in having old KTTK cards listed. I guess I should just deactivate them?

I wouldn't. Considering the "technological" challenges it is liable to screw something else up... (Checking into a hotel screwed my account up LOL!)

Deactivating them doesn't do what you'd want. They still show up on your account and prevent you from removing evil twins.
