I just booked the October 2nd Magic Canadian Cruise. Does anyone have any tips or information regarding this cruise? Any insight would be appreciated.

No tips right now but I wanted to say that we are also on that cruise. We are looking forward to it. It will be our third Disney Cruise. We were originally planning on doing the PC cruise but could not pass it up when the NY cruises were announced.

We did it back in 2012 when the Magic was last in NY. We had a fabulous time. Ours was a 5 days cruise. Not sure of your itinerary. We did Halifax and I think St. John's. Let me know if you have specific questions about the port of New York. Make sure you are out on deck when passing the Statue of Liberty and going under the Verazzano Narrows Bridge. I love sailing out of NYC.

Those are amazing pictures! We have never seen the Statue of Liberty. We hope that the New York port isn't too difficult. We've only traveled out of Florida and Texas where it's all very easy and organized.

From the map I looked at the port is downtown near the train station. I wish I could be on that cruise with you!

Actually the port is located on the West side of Manhattan at about 52nd Street and 12th Ave. right at the Hudson River (along the Westside Highway). There is no train station nearby (or do you mean subway?). Don't know about that. You can walk several blocks to Times Square from there but no train station. Also the Intrepid Air/Space Museum is literally next door to the port and can be walked to in about 3 minutes. Last year when we did the Transatlantic from PC the first stop was Manhattan (pretty funny since we live about 30 minutes from the NYC port) and we went to the Intrepid Museum. It was very interesting.

The pics above are:

Another shot of the SOL
The Freedom Tower (which is now complete) aka WTC
Pulling into the Port
The Intrepid Air/Space Museum
The Magic from the Intrepid (literally at the next pier)
The Magic as seen from the the sidewalk in front of the port...yes, its that close!!

You will also pass the West side of Manattan, the East side of New Jersey, Ellis Island and the NYC Financial District plus many water craft like tankers, the Staten Island Ferry, NY Waterway Ferries, personal boats, sailboats, etc. It is beautiful sailing down or up the Hudson River to the port.

If you plan on parking at the port it is very steep but convenient. It is roof top parking. Here is a link to the New York Passenger Ship Terminal website.

I just looked for shore excursions and only see ones for Halifax. Are there any for St Johns? We're getting close to the 120 day mark and want to pick our excursions early. We've sailed out of NY on NCL, but this will be our first time out of NY on Disney!

Love love love these pictures. I was wondering if you remember when port adventures were posted for your cruise. I am not so patiently waiting for the St. John's ones to be listed :) Also, looking for input on excursions that you really enjoyed or wouldn't do again. What was the weather like on your cruise? I believe it was similar in time frame.

So far DCL has only posted two excursions for St John. One is a hop-on/hop-off bus, and the second is a kayak & lobster bake. Those were only posted about 2 weeks ago so hopefully there will be more to follow.

In NY terms, that's far. Especially when you're dealing with luggage. Anyone coming into NYC via Penn Station, I would strongly recommend a cab to the port.

Oh I never meant to imply it was walking distance, just that it was closer to the train station than the airport.

I love the pics! Thanks for posting. we're sailing out of NYC right before the 10/2 cruisers on a DVC Member Cruise. This is great.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but just wondering.. how long does it take to warm up when cruising in October from NYC to Florida/Bahamas? We are considering the Bahamian NYC cruise to Orlando and Castaway Cay. We are in SW Ontario and most of the time October is still very warm, often mid 20's until at least mid month. Some years it's still that in November (like last year) I'm assuming NYC is the same. But assuming we are cruising end of October and it's chilly in New York. How long before you can wear shorts and swim?

We took the train to the Disney Canadian cruise and then walked to the port with our luggage. On the way there we walked through the Hell's kitchen flea market and on the walk back to Penn Station my wife bought fabric in the garment district. Mood fabric of project runway fame is along the route.

I would have taken the subway but the thought of taking luggage up and down the stairs was daunting. According to Google maps it is 1.5 mi and a 31 minute walk.

We did the 5 night cruise in 2012 as well. Had a wonderful time. We booked a private tour in St. Johns that took us to the sea caves in St. Martins among other stops and had a wonderful day. Highly recommend making it over there if you can. We did Peggy's Cove in Halifax and then walked the city on our own.

Understood. I was just picking up on your definition of far comment. Because you're right to some people, 2 miles is not far. I just didn't want to leave anybody unfamiliar with the city that it was an easy 2 miles (it's not). I work a block closer to the west side from Penn Station and walked to the port when the Magic stopped on its way to Europe last year. But I couldn't imagine doing that dragging luggage.

If I understand your question, generally by the time you hit the road Carolinas, you should feel a difference. Say by the next morning? We did a southern Caribbean Cruise on the Queen Mary 2 that left the end of November one year and by the morning after we left, it felt substantially warmer. Of course it all depends on the weather up and down the east coast.
