For an upcoming trip, can I just use the ones I bought before covid and never used?

I believe the battery in them last about 2 years. I have used some that were 3 years old and didn’t have any problems.

Old MBs can always be used as long as you didn't deactivate them in MDE. The battery for the RFID is supposed to last about 2 years. That is what is used for on ride photos. even if that isn't working, the band will continue to work as your room key, park entry, charging purchases, etc.

There is very little benefit to using magic bands right now. You can do park entry and room entry on your phone. Since there are no fast passes, you don’t need to use a band for anything else throughout the day.

But they are cute... Seriously though, I still wear mine. I do use it to charge things and meals to my room, for photopass photographers to scan, for park entry and for room entry. I think it is faster than pulling my phone out. And its cute...

Used Apple Watch for payments and photos

You can use your phone for room entry? I am so behind with the times. lol

My trip isn't until December so maybe things will changes by then.

I just didn't want to have to buy new ones if I didn't have to.

Thanks.

Yes, but you currently have to open the MDE mobile app to do so.

Sometime after Apple releases iOS 15 this fall, WDW will support the hotel key feature that Apple is adding. This new feature will allow you to add your hotel room key to the wallet app and should work just like park entry.

Some people like to wear MB just to wear MB. I know we do. They're fun and just make you feel like disney!
But I don't have an Apple watch either. Still, I think I'd want a MB.

Same!

My phone battery gets drained fast enough at Disney, so I don't want to rely solely on it to get back into my room at the end of a long day. Yes, I have a portable charger, but still. Between the summer heat and the charging phone, sometimes it seizes up until it can cool down, or at least my old phone did.

Does Disney send you an email to purchase magic bands closer to trip? We have a short trip over the holidays- and I’d like them to load my tickets and send to me. I have some older ones but concerned they will not be loaded correctly.

Disney no longer gives free magic bands so its up to you to order them. If you purchase some either on shopdisney or from the My Plans section if they do not connect right away you jsut add the numbers on the puck to the person you wish to add. Assuming you have everyone on friends and family. Currently my family has 7 people but only 3 this trip so I went and deactivated the old bands and left the ones we just got. The tickets will auto apply to the band since its linked to them.

There is nothing actually on the bands, so they can't be "loaded with the tickets". If your band is linked to your account and your tickets are linked to your account, then you are good. The band (or card, whatever you use), is just a key to read what is in your account.

Yup just need to make sure the band you are wanting to wear is active

How exactly do you do this with your Apple Watch? I had no idea!

Once you enable Mobile Magic on your phone, there is an option to access the Apple Wallet pass on your watch. Once you've done that, it is available for park entry or photopass on your watch. You don't even have to open any apps or anything. You just tap the watch just like if it were a magic band. For payments, you just use apple pay on the watch.

How do I order them with my package? I understand they are not free anymore. Our bands will be 2 years old right when we go I wanted to get new ones.

When you login to MDE you should see a button to order under "My Plans" as well as under "Magicbands and Cards". It's pretty apparent under your account on the website.
