We got our magic bands today for our April trip. I noticed that the magic bands appeared thinner so I matched one of them up against an old magic band and they are of a lesser quality than before. We also did not get any DVC sliders this time. I'm not complaining it's just something I noticed. On the plus side I got the purple for my daughter who loves purple. She is out of town now and will be surprised when I give it to her, it looks great.

Maybe they will be more flexible and more comfortable due to the slimmer construction? I sure hope so ... the old ones hurt my wrist bones.

Our last trip was November and I didn't notice a difference so I wonder if they switched right after that. I'll have to pull out all the bands and really compare them.

Like most things, they start out and later are modified to cut costs, thinner and sliders were disconnected last year but reports are that the front desk may have some.

:earsboy: Bill

People talked about the thinner bands about a month ago when they started being shipped. Most feel that they are *better* than before, because they are more flexible to the wrist.

Most say the DVC sliders are gone gone gone. I got one slider out of 4 boxes of bands for February, though.

Actually the thinner bands are more comfortable and more flexible. So I would have to believe that this was a case of them responding to guest feedback. Not everything they do is to cut costs. For one thing there is absolutely no way to know that thinner bands are less expensive to manufacture.

I agree that the bands are probably a bit more comfortable. However we've had 2 that began to peel away the outer grey extender just upon opening them up for the first time. With careful use they stayed together but I don't recall that happening with the previous bands.

There are probably a few reasons for this, but remember, electronic components get smaller every year.

In the IT world we have Moore's Law (from Gordon Moore, a Co-founder of Intel), and to simplify and not bore people, basically a the size of a circuit board will get cut in half every two years.

In the electronics world, things get smaller, and very quickly.

some of the insides of the magic bands can now be made half the size they were when the first magic bands came out....it's been 2 years....

I received a set of bands after the "thinner" bands were reported, but I didn't notice any difference. They measured and weighed the exact same.

Hmm, I was going to cancel our MagicBand shipment because I got so many last year when we had APs. But if these have upgraded technology, maybe I should get another set.

Same here...we already have pretty much every color, but if they're "better", then we're in for more.

It is just the material AFAIK. Nothing about the electronics and the size of that area is identical.

I would not bother. I think there's some confusion - it just seems like a slight material change of the band itself and not any upgrade.
