MyMagic+ MagicBands to begin testing in parks soon!

The final component of the NextGen MyMagic+ experience is set to begin testing in the parks late next week.

MagicBands will be given to a limited number of guests during a small trial period, where the full spectrum of MyMagic+ will be tested in real-world use for the first time. Wearing the MagicBands allows the guest to 'Touch to Enter' at the parks main entrance, 'Touch to Pay' at shops and quick service restaurants, touch for FASTPASS+ access to attractions, and 'Touch to Enter' room access. Test Track will become the first attraction where the MagicBands can be used as part of the experience, in place of the white cards that are currently used in the design studio.

The standard MagicBands are expected to be available in a range of colors, red, black, blue, green, pink, orange and yellow. Disney has also said that special designer MagicBands will be available at an additional cost.

It is expected that once this initial MagicBand test is complete, the rollout will continue in phases to a full deployment of MyMagic+ during the remainder of 2013.

Yeah, it's already been mentioned in a couple threads. Here's an article with all I know (speculation-wise) about it.

It does seem like they are beginning to roll it out but just in a test format. If I had to guess, I'd say this is going to be conducted in an "opt-in" kinda format, but I must say that I have no idea how standard FastPass will (or won't be) apart of this.

I also am wondering if you can still have both fast pass and plus and for how long you are going to be able to have both! Our trip is not until May so hopefully we know more before then! :)

Just to add, fastpassplus.disney.com is still redirecting to disneyparks.com, so as of now, no emails have been sent out allowing guests to make FP+ reservations. This is very interesting...

I'm ashamed to say that I'm nervously excited about this test/rollout!

If you opt into the band, then there's no way to pull regular FPs. There won't be RFID scanners on the old FP machines.

That's my thought process, too, but there's been no FP+ emails sent out yet and it seems that the MagicBand test will not include FP+. I doubt Disney would leave some guests without FP or FP+. It's a doozy...

Thanks for the heads up. We leave in exactly 1 month and are staying at the Contemporary. I had JUST resigned myself that FP+ wouldn't be up and running by the time we get there, but now I just don't know again. I really want to use it for this trip and the not knowing is driving me nuts!

I'd be on the lookout for MagicBands but it's up in the air. I don't think FP+ will be fully operational until sometime between late April and mid-May. If you're traveling after then, LOOK OUT!

There are monitors set up at all the attractions (typically near the RFID scanners). So while they may not include advance FP+ reservations in this test (though they could have the ability to reserve FP+ reservations the day before at the resorts). The participants will likely get their FPs using the MagicBands and those monitors.

Guess I'll be watching here on the Dis for my July trip then to see what I need to expect. AAAAHHH just decide already, Disney!

I believe those have always been there, but that does sound like a legit possibility. We'll see though.

We saw some suits testing the monitors. They would wave the card in front of the RFID scanner then punch things in on the screen.

The monitors all mention fast pass+ on them, I spent a lot of time looking at the monitors that appeared new to me ? Last week.........

This is what makes me nervous with a trip planned for May 15-24! I will be looking for any information I can find between now and then to figure this out! I am hoping to just be able to use regular fast pass for May and then on the next trip change over to plus once we know more! :confused3

:goodvibes Hi Dan!

:goodvibes Hi Dan!

I just booked us for May 4-9th. I mostly hope it up and running by then :)

Right now the entire MagicBand, FastPass Plus, RFID Chips, and everything else related to NextGen is in a state of flux and nobody will be able to give a definite answer to anything related to them until at least a few months after everything is rolled out.

Why?

It appears to have stopped rather abruptly.
