Magic bands or cards?

I know I can use my phone to scan in for Genie Plus but heard there was a free option, a car of some sort that is easier to scan. Anyone know anything about it? We are not on site, we are planning on the Dolphin. Want to make it easy going through and then also splitting up groups. If not, what is the cheapest band to buy? Can I use it at both Disneyland and WDW?

It's just the OG cards everyone had to use pre-magic band. I'm seriously leaning towards them because I really don't want to fork out $80 (for four) for something we won't be using again. Staying at the swan ourselves, so since it won't open the hotel room door or let us charge...it won't be able to do anything except get us in and for photopass.

What are OG cards? Where do you get them? My kids don't wear watches and bracelets so don't like stuff on their wrists, but want to make the process go smoothly. Don't need it to open the hotel or charge, just want to scan at the rides.

Just got back from WDW and got the card. Stayed at the Dolphin so the magic band wasn't needed for the hotel. I inadvertently got the card as I have a Samsung phone and apparently the readers prefer iphones, so a plaid vest was called over when my mobile ticket wasn't reading at the second park and he set up my mobile ticket onto a regular card. It was a pretty Mickey Mouse 50th anniversary design and my DD promptly asked to have it after the trip as a souvenir.

Disneyland has Magic Bands?

The upcoming MagicBand+ will be released at Disneyland sometime this year. No official word on if the other MagicBands will work at DLR once MagicBand+ rolls out there.

My kids don't wear anything on their wrists either however when we do to WDW they never complain about wearing the magic bands.

I find it amazing that after basically 2 years of the mobile ticket most cast member have no idea how it works. My family all have android phones, we tried to use it last year and it wasn't working. The cast member said it was because it wasn't an Iphone it won't work. Luckily there was a guest behind us in line and said it doesn't matter and showed us how to use it. It had to do with the default settings in and you had to unlock you phone to use it for android. Ever since then it's been flawless. It's definitely not as convenient as magicbands especially if you have people in your party that don't have there own phones.

They gave one to my two year old when we checked in at GF last month. I said good. Now he can come and go as he pleases

The regular plastic ticket cards that were in use before MBs. You can get them at any ticket booth before you enter your first park. Then tap them to the Mickey at the tapstiles just like a MB, scan your finger (if they're doing that - it varies, and you need to be sure your kids use the same finger every time), and you're in!
