When you get to the parks, do you need anything other than your magic band? What I mean is if you have charging privileges, would you need anything else such as your driver's license or photo id?

You only need your MB to get into the parks or to make a purchase. I left my drivers license and credit cards back in the room safe on our trip in January. If there is a problem with the MB's not working, they just take the ID number off the inside of the band. They don't ask for an ID.

Theoretically you should bring your ID. If the band doesn't work with your fingerprint they can request ID to prove you have use of that ticket.

Agreed, and for emergency purposes as well. Never be without your ID if you can help it. Never.

You should bring ID and cash/credit card. If you lose your band- and they can pop off- you will need your id at guest services and also you don't want to be without funds if that happens. Also if you intend to purchase any alcoholic beverages, WDW does id- we saw some magic band only people get turned away. Most importantly, the magic bands can glitch. My friend's family had trouble with their magic bands for the first 2 days of their trip. They were on the dining plan and in the parks and their MBs would not work for their meal- the restaurant made them pay out of pocket. Luckily they had credit cards and cash with them. They were later reimbursed by Disney.

We carried our ID's for varies reasons. Than one day we wanted to tip somebody at the park and I had wished I had taken cash out at the resort(where my debit card was). Also carried our AP's for discounts and TiW card, and eventually a CC after we went to Jellyrolls one night. I learned by the 3rd day of the trip to just bring my wallet when we left the room...

When we go to WDW I typically go more than once a year, so I have an AP. If I have an AP I want to use my discounts on things. If I want to use a discount, I need to bring the AP card. So I bring that.

If I want to use my AP discount I also have to prove who I am. So I bring my ID.

Even though I'm older, I still get carded with a straight face because apparently moving to western WA and the lack of blazing sun did my skin good, so if I'm buying booze I want my ID anyway, just in case (b/c even if they're just doing a CYA carding, if you don't have it you can't be sold the booze, not even if you're 99).

Thanks to AP and DVC, we can buy a TIW card. Gotta have that card, so I bring that.

I tend to bring the DVC card, too.

I bring a CC in case I am not charging to the room on that trip OR if the charging feature isn't working (hasn't happened with MB but happened half the time with the RFID cards!).

And I bring my insurance card.

So that's:
ID
AP card
DVC card (usually)
TIW card
Insurance card

And MB.

So convenient.

I'll bring just my Magicband.

And my wife. ::yes::

She'll bring all the rest of the stuff. ;)

Marriage has solved a lot of problems for me.

We are on day 6 of our trip. Three of the days so far my husbands MB has not worked getting into the park, and not consecutive days. Each time they told us they fixed it, but there was still a problem another day. Two days he had to show his AP and one day he had to show his driver's license. At MK, they called a guy over with an iPad to help. He asked for my husband's license. As my husband was taking it out ( this was the third day of the problem) he asked what would happen if he didn't have it. The lovely CM was extremely rude and told my DH he wouldn't let him in without it. He proceeded to lecture us saying you should never enter the park without it because if you get hurt Disney won't know who you are. It was a magical way to start the day!

For us the MB has not reduced the need to carry anything. We have still needed to show:
Driver's license
Annual pass
DVC card
TIW card

This just happened to my dad a few days ago & he had to show his ID-I recommend you bring it.

I would also bring a little cash. Sometimes the outside kiosks don't always work for charging privileges. I saw this happen numerous times at F&W one year and people weren't happy at all.

Add smartphone to the list of must haves. My boys were going to use their FPs for RnR while DH and I did other things. I walked them to the ride but waited because i noticed people being turned away from the FP line. The readers were broken and they would only let you thru if you showed them the FP info on the app. They even made me wait on the line with my kids to show it at the second checkpoint. They wouldn 't just check it once and let them in.

I dont go anywhere without my phone anyway , but just a heads up for others, especially if your group plans on splitting up and not everyone has a phone.

Like some other PPs mentioned as a passholder I still have to carry everything with me plus more. AP, license, TiW card, my debit card, my MB and often my 4 year old's MB when he gets annoyed with it. :sad2:

Definitely need your phone so you can show a CM your itinerary if there's any issues with FP+ (I've had to do this a few times.)

I hope there's a way in the near future for APs to consolidate everything into the MB.

I would never go to the parks without my ID and at least some cash. Ever. If you lose your band or ticket you would need your ID to replace it. If your ticket doesn't read, they may want an ID to show that you are the person assigned to that ticket. I'm not young but sometimes I still get carded for drinks when the CMs get a little overenthusiastic about carding people. And technology breaks down. I might be glad to have some cash on me.
(note: there are posts up right now stating that the entire My Magic Plus system is currently down at Hollywood Studios.)

And you do not really need your phone even if you want to manipulate your FP+ since you could do that at the kiosks, but it would be easier if you had the phone.

I suspect my DH will bring his MB, a CC, and his passport...

I'll be stuck with everything else (sunscreen, camera, etc!)

Wow, I wish I could say I was surprised, but a similar thing happened to my DH, his AP wouldn't scan and they asked him for ID and then because we are DVC they asked for that- seriously??? :confused3
MBs are not a convenience until they add the discounts to the band for AP, DVC and TIW.

To the OP, I've read many posts about MBs not working and people having to pay out of pocket, I would always bring ID and a payment backup.

Yeah, I definitely married up. She's not a diser, but she's gotten us great deals in the past and she even was the one responsible when we got Family of the Day on our last trip. She's always #1 on my packing list... :cloud9:

If you have a chase Disney visa, use that for your credit card that you bring with you and if you are a pin collector don't forget to show it to the cashier for a special Visa card only pin! You can still pay by mb, but you have to show them your visa to get the pin.

Ah yes forgot about the Disney Visa debit/credit discount. If I'm planning on a purchase over $50 from a participating store, I definitely pay with that. So I bring that card too.
